Rainy Day Activities

November 11, 2023 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

It’s been a very rainy day at the chimp house, but don’t worry, no day is boring when you are around chimpanzees! This morning, I heard chimp laughter and walked in to see Honey B and Dora playing with Mave supervising.

The afternoon rolled around and it was still raining and chilly. This time when I walked in to the front rooms, I found Cy grooming a certain someone. I won’t say who, because there will be a quiz in today’s video! They didn’t seem to notice my presence, so I sat down to enjoy the peaceful moment with them.

I am so happy to be a part of this team and to get the privilege to witness these moments of sanctuary and share them with each of you. I hope you enjoy today’s video, and find some inspiration from the chimps to find the best in even the dreariest of days!

Expert level is correct! Willy B may be my Pal but I’m afraid I don’t know him well enough to ID him butts-up! Thanks for capturing these moments. Especially Burrito swinging in for the perfect ending.

(It was a fun surprise to see your name below the title. Looking forward to your personal outlook on everything Sanctuary. Today was a great start!!) 🙂

Thank you, Kathleen! I thought Burrito’s video was too good not to share!

Thanks, Ellen! That end at the beginning almost threw me, too!

So good to see that Li’l Dora still has some time for her old friend Honey B, and that Mave will share her bestie!

I thought that was such a nice moment to enjoy with Dora and Honey B playing! Mave was certainly keeping a close eye on the whole situation from a comfortable spot on the floor just in front of them, but never felt the need to intervene and let them enjoy their play session uninterrupted.

Hi, there, Ellen, and welcome to your first (?) blog! Nope, I didn’t regognise Willy B but he looked like he was having a very good time there with Cy.Could give us some tips in aerobics. It might have been raining over your part of the world but that didn’t stop the chimps having fun. Many thanks for sharing the video with us and I loved hearing the breathy breathing at the end of the clip!.

Thank you, Susan! This is just my second blog, but my first getting to share more about the chimps. It was a very tricky pose to identify Willy B in for sure! I saw Terry this morning doing a similar move as he was groomed by Willy B and Mave. Chimps are impressive in so many ways. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I guessed correctly, but my only clue was the sound of gum-smacking from beneath all of that fur

Oh, and Burrito…such grace, such poise, such joie de vivre.

That’s impressive! There was quite a bit of fur but very few other features to go off of. Burrito is just the best…always down to play and somehow manages to look both graceful and silly while he is doing it!

    Hi Ellen,
I am so glad to read that you are feeling right at home!
This sanctuary is so wonderful and the human people are so sensitive, loving and caring; you will fit right in.
And I am happy to see that Mave is “supervising”, and willing to let go of Dora so there is a little more space in that relationship. She could be a little posessive when it comes to Dora.
Here, in the other side of the world ( Netherlands), it also has been poring with rain for at least a week ( that’s what is feels like).
    Today…..SUNSHINE!!

Thank you so much, Marianne! It truly is such a wonderful place. I thought it was so nice as well that Honey B and Dora enjoyed a great play session with Mave content to watch from her comfortable spot on the floor.
I’m so glad you all get to enjoy some sunshine after a rainy week! It has still been overcast here today, but a little warmer and no rain so we are grateful for that.
