a special request and the human climbing structure

October 8, 2023 by Diana

First for the request:

We are working on the Comfort & Joy online auction and virtual gathering (more details to come), and we’d like to include short (30 sec or less) clips from YOU telling us which chimpanzee at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest brings you joy and why! These are super informal videos you can just take on your phone in selfie mode and send them to me [email protected] using WeTransfer or some other file sharing service of your choice. Feel free to email me with any questions!

This can be your platform to express your love of a particular chimpanzee!

Speaking of platforms, we have a physical (wooden) platform, above the seated observation area, where staff only can access to get photos of the chimpanzees.

I climbed up there today and wondered if the chimpanzees below thought of me as being on a climbing structure, similar to the structures they have in their outdoor habitats. Maybe we should have a human forage up there some day.

This time of year serves up the potential for some contrasting photos, with the dark hair of the chimpanzees standing out against the muted yellow and beige tones of the grass.

Here’s Burrito, coming back down the hill after looking for leftover breakfast forage food:

And Foxie, who brought along a blue-haired friend as she traversed Young’s Hill:

Missy, as she was slack-lining across the fire hose:

I looked over to my right, and spotted someone on the Escher structure on The Bray. I did a bit of a double-take because I was not expecting the chimp to be Lucky! Look how relaxed she looks up there. She’s really embraced The Bray these last few weeks and continues to show off her adventurous side.

Is your favorite chimpanzee one of these four or someone else? Let us know by sending in your video clip!

I have 16 favorites! And I am super proud of Lucky. She looks as if she has been hanging out in the big open world all of her life. Way to go Lucky!

i love them all. That said, there’s something extra special about Burrito

I totally agree, Alex, but would add the Moo Crew as well. Burrito captured my heart from the get go, but I love each and every one of them.

Yes!! Let’s not forget the Moo Crew! Do you have a favorite cow?

Again, how can you pick just one? Meredith and her unique ways always makes me laugh, but Nutmeg is amazing! How did the little bitty calf grow to that size?

Oh my, Diana, that’s a very big ask as to which chimpanzee brings us joy as quite simply they all do! I remember viewing the chimps photos when I first visited your sanctuary website and wanted to select a chimp pal. I was spoilt for choice as as the photos of the chimps were adorable. Each photo bursting with the chimp’s petsonality. I finally chose Annie as my pal because of her background and she sort of “spoke to me”. And of course Annie has a sweetness about her.Since I joined your sanctuary more chimps have taken up residence and I love them all. It will be interesting to read other comments on this one.

    This is a fun idea,Diana!
But, really! You can’t identify Blueberry Muffin!? After all of these years!? 😉

Honey B. is my favorite because she’s so confident and muschievous. But then there’s Negra, so gentle and separate, and so redpected. Except Burrito, who laughs, and makes me laugh. But, no, wait a minute, there’s Willie B., so handsome and… you get the idea. 🙂

I feel the same way! Every time I feel like someone’s my favorite, someone else will do something that makes me fall in love with them all over again! Everyone has their own unique quirks that just make them so wonderful.

I have so much love for all of them. But Burrito pulls on my heartstrings.

OK, i’m throwing my hat in the ring for my guy Cy. Being a lierature major in college the first time i saw him gentling turning magazine pages, i was hooked. Oh, i love the ladies’ beautuful expressions and the goofball antics of you know who, but such an intellectual gentleman gets my vote. I’ll have to dress formal for my video.

I think that’s so cool that the humans have their own observation deck! Choose a favorite – how do you pick just one?! I think everyone loves Bubba’s young-at-heart demeanor, but every one of the chimps brings their own special something to the table.

I know you want videos Diana, but I’m not going on camera thank you very much:see_no_evil:

Well, everyone knows that Burrito is my One True Love Valentine. And Mave is the one who captured my heart during the first video I ever saw, (the arrival video with her little blankie) and made me want to come back to CSNW and follow. BUT! I love Honey B more and more. She continues to be, well, “Unexpected.” I love her mind and the shenanigans she comes up with. She makes me LMAO! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:And I’m so proud of her throughout the integration. Again, unexpected. I truly truly love every single one of them, but Honey B’s my gal. She’s my person.

Fair enough, Paulette. I’m not a fan of being on camera either. I am really glad to know that Honey B is your person. Anthony will also appreciate this! ?
