Calm Before The Storm

August 29, 2023 by Chad de Bree

Hopefully by now you were able to read yesterday’s blog about Willy B’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde routine that happens in the afternoons. If not, you should go read it to get a little backstory of today’s blog.

Though this afternoon routine usually consists a chaotic scene of blurs zipping across the enclosures accompanied with ear splitting screams, the moments right before Willy B’s ruckus hour are filled with laughter. In today’s video, this is usually what is happening moments before Willy B decides to get a rise out of people. In fact, you can see him gearing for that specific time referenced in yesterday’s blog at the end of the video.

Here are some bonus photos from today!

The first morning patrol of the day!

Jamie

Burrito

Missy

Speaking of Missy, every so often she gives us some reminders that she is indeed Honey B’s mother.

Here she is thwarting my attempts to close off her playroom to clean.

As you can see, she has zero intent of moving

And lastly, some photos from a couple weeks ago that I forgot to use in the blog!

Burrito and his nighttime peanut butter magazine!

“What to eat with Diabetes”–“Peanut Butter!”

Thanks, Chad. Missy looks so earnest in those patrol photos!

I adore Mave and Dora’s friendship, its so joyful and genuine… well until Willy B or one of boys (jerks :)) ruins the peace.. lol

Yay! It’s a quiet, sweet, Mora B play-groom session. (Mave + Dora + Honey B = Mora B) We could also refer to these girls as the Three Musketeers. Great video, thanks Chad.

I’m curious, does Willy B start his daily ruckus about the same time each day?

I thought JB said 2:30. I wonder if Julie or Deanna could tell us if anything used to happen every day at 2:30

I am very curious as to how precise his timing is. Mostly because dogs and cats can be exacting in knowing it’s mealtime or wanting to engage in a daily play session or walk. You could set you watch by how down-to-the-minute they are. This applies not just to our pets (who you could say do things out of routine/habit), but with some dogs in shelters, too. And, I have seen crows gathered outside my office building, every single day at exactly 3:00 pm, in the same place.

So I was curious if Willy B was that exact with the timing of his mood swing. Curious if the behavior could be circumvented/redirected some how. Or would you just be delaying the behavior? But I know that J.B. and staff have tried everything by now! 🙂

All of this makes me love Willy B all the more.

I suppose Willy B will be Willy B, although I’m also curious why he seems to have his outbursts around the same time. Hopefully, as the group gets used to each other, they’ll grow more accustomed to his outbursts and not get as wound up over them,
Speaking of (lovable) jerks, I’m curious who displays/causes a ruckus more now: Burrito or Jamie? I know Bubs has cooled down a bit since his procedure.

I seem to recall in a past blog that Cy really put Willy B in his place one day because he was being so annoying. I wonder why Cy doesn’t nip Willy B’s outbursts in the bud each day
