All Day Shenanigans

July 3, 2023 by Grace

Today has been nothing short of goofy here in the chimp house.

This morning, after cleaning the playroom, we put out giant kongs for Burrito and his group. Giant kongs have always been a favorite of Burrito’s and it never gets old watching him drag them along, bounce or sit on them, or just be generally silly as he plays with them! Today was no exception and it made us all smile.

This afternoon, as we wrapped up lunch, Chad mentioned that Honey B and Dora were having a great play session in the front rooms. We could see them in the security footage and hear them breathy panting, so I snuck in to try and get footage! Honey B has a big, fierce personality and I think it’s safe to say that we are all super proud of her and the bonds she’s making in the bigger group. It was really sweet to watch her have so much fun with Dora and they played for a lot of the afternoon!

Every moment with the chimps is special, but seeing them engaged with something (or someone) that makes them so happy is the best feeling. And when these moments last all day, then it’s just a really darn good day. 🙂

Burrito had a mini photo shoot with one of the giant kongs this morning:

Cy looking as handsome as ever in the Riverview Greenhouse:

Foxie with her baby doll:

Terry watching something over my shoulder very intently, or just giving me a great portrait shot. Either way:

The best kind of shenanigans: no one hurt, no property desyroyed (hoses, etc).
i just wish there where some kind of bouncy toy for Bubba that would be safe for him!

I really had to laugh watching Burrito with the Giant Kong, I wonder how long he kept up the shoulder slamming?
Seeing Honey B with Dora was also entertaining, it’s good to see Honey B interacting more often with others. Now, if we could just her outside to explore the Bray, I’m not giving up hope!!

Aw. The play session with Honey B and Dora was just the sweetest! A few moments in there just looked like a really good hug. I’m just so happy for Honey B, and proud. I just wish she would overcome her fears and go out onto the Bray.

Wow!! Paulette & Marie — I didn’t think of it on my own, but you’re both right! His expression does look like someone with a very old soul setting off on a journey with great intent. What a powerful expression! Thanks to you both for mentioning it!

Burrito could teach a physical therapy class. Work out those kinks! All you need is giant Kong. And you are correct, Grace, watching Burrito with his Kong never, ever gets old.

That was an endless play session between Dora and Honey B. Not sure they even cared you were filming them, they were too busy having fun with each other. Where was Mave?! And was that Lucky watching them near the end? All the new friendships must mean so much to each individual.

Oh these play sessions are so charming, heart-warming and essential for them and wonderful to watch! Such a reflection of their affection for each other and how important physical touch is to establishing and maintaining connections. They are just so wonderful together. Now about those expressions on Foxie’s face as she looks so lovingly at Strawberry Shortcake (I think?) with such love in her eyes. Just can’t beat that for a heart-melter.
