If You Give Burrito a Skateboard…

June 25, 2023 by Grace

We talk a lot on the blog about sweet and silly Burrito and all the antics he gets into! Whether it’s playing chase all day, taking us on runs around the hill, or running around with a slinky around his back foot- he often seems to have a bottomless reserve of energy.

Burrito on Negra’s Cabin during today’s lunch forage:

His silly personality and constant energy often makes me forget that he is technically considered geriatric. Burrito was born on January 6th, 1983 in a laboratory where he was used in hepatitis B vaccine research at just one year of age. He was then moved to the Buckshire Corporation where he was kept as a ‘house chimp’ before being leased out to an animal act. A year later, he returned to the laboratory.

His life has not been easy in any way, nor has it been the life he deserved to live in the wild with his family- yet we can rely on him to always make us smile. Even with something as small as a skateboard. Amazing, isn’t he?

Two quick reminders! We have been nominated for the 2023 Best In the PNW Contest. 🙂 Voting goes through the end of the month and you can vote once every day! Please take a moment and vote for us by clicking the link here, if you feel so inclined. CSNW is listed under Services -> Nonprofits.

We are also still working to reach our $30k fundraising goal for this month, as a generous donor pledged to match donations made in June up to $30k in honor of all the big June milestones! We are so close, but haven’t reached it yet- please consider making a donation today to help us reach this goal.

Yeeeessss! I knew he could! Thank you, Grace.
And even though he has his own signature belly crawl move (shown here), I would still love it if you guys could show him a video of Hercules on his scooterboard (I can’t remember if he’s at Save the Chimps or Project Chimps, but I recommend everyone watch it, because he definitely looks joyful!

Neggie, you actually DID get her toes!
It seems like Neggie has been making an effort to move even if a tiny bit more when she’s playing, instead of just grabbing whoever is within arm’s reach. To say nothing of the celebration day, when she climbed a firehouse to the catwalk to beat Missy to that cup of cider! That was amazing!

Linda: thanks for giving us the way to watch Hercules on his skateboard. That was delightful.

yw! it’s one of those that I watch for a quick dose of happy. (But I wasn’t trying to show Burrito up)

That was wonderful! Thanks, Linda, for sharing that. It just dawned on me that is Hercules of “Hercules and Leo”. So fun seeing him choosing to do what he wants these days.

Burrito’s belly roll made me think of a surfer paddling his way out to a wave.
So happy to see another video of Negra being fun and feisty, completely changing my impression of her! I loved the Hercules video. Thanks Linda! Perhaps Grace can show that video to Burrito.

always count on Burritto for a laugh. one of the staff should show Burritto and use the board while on their knees and push with your hand or sit on it with legs raised. more speed that way. You go Burritto.

Yes, Grace, we are so very lucky to know Burrito, even if only through the blog. I believe if you google the definition of “silly” or “bliss”, there’s a photo of Burrito! I’m sure of it!

As if Burrito going for a joy ride on his blue scooter wasn’t enough, you tossed in Annie and Neggie’s play faces and laughter. Loved it! And bonus photos too. Thank you.

Burrito. you rock that board, Dude. What a delight to see all the play antics of the chimps. Great background music too. Thanks for reminding us to vote.

I’ll bet Buritto wouldn’t have wanted to share that board with anyone. So sweet!

Just wonderful fun watching Burrito bounce along, riding on his belly and having a good time solo. Watching him do just about anything (including sitting quietly) captures my heart and gives me a smile. What a guy! Thanks, Grace!!
