Changes and an Employment Opportunity

June 23, 2023 by Anna

First the not so good news from the sanctuary… Sofía has plans this summer to relocate to the east coast and continue her vet tech career closer to family. We wish her luck with the next chapter in her life and thank her for all her hard work and dedication to the cattle and chimpanzees’ health and well-being over the last several years. We are all so grateful! I will let her write her own goodbye on the blog in the next couple of weeks.

With Sofía’s departure, we have a specialized job vacancy on our staff. We are now currently hiring for a Full-Time Medical-Veterinary Assistant/Chimpanzee Caregiver. Please share the job posting on our website far and wide so we can find that certain person who wants to work as a chimpanzee/cattle caregiver, but also has medical experience to contribute to their healthcare.

Here are some photos of Sofía in action over the years!

Oh, Sofia…so sorry to read the news. Any chance you can entice your east coast kinfolk to try out being west coasters? I think that would be a solution which would meet with Gordo and Honey’s approval.

I think her family is in Puerto Rico, Tobin. Would YOU give that up for snow!?
East coast just means that she can fly home in a couple of hours vs taking a whole day to travel.

Sofía, we’ll miss you! As will Bubba. And the Californians! Somebody on staff better start some DuoLingo soon!
I know it will be easier being able to get home for a visit more quickly, and maybe having time off at holidays. (ps have you checked to see if Neeegra! understands Spanish yet?)

Oh what a loss for the sanctuary, but best of luck always. Before you leave please try to polish Honey B’s nails again. Ithink she really enjoyed the spa treatment and attention.

Hi Sofia, I’ll state the obvious, you will be missed. Who will clean those pearly whites when the chimps are under anesthesia, or paint their fingernails?!

I am pleased to hear you will continue to forge ahead in pursuit of a vet tech career. It seems this profession is needed beyond our companion animals. I wish you success in your advancement in your career. Follow your dreams!!

Oh, Sofia, what a hard decision this must’ve been for you but the right one for your life at this time. You’ll be sorely missed by all the creatures connected to the sanctuary! Thank you for your love of the bovines and chimps and for your hard work and dedication. All the beings you’ll come into contact with going forward will be as grateful for your presence as we are!
