New Beginnings

May 10, 2023 by Kelsi 35 Comments

I think it is time to celebrate something. This morning started off like any other. Jamie’s group went out onto Young’s Hill, including Negra! It was the perfect morning to forage for grass and feel the warm sunshine.

Negra:

However, later in the afternoon we closed off Young’s Hill because… Rayne’s group went out on the the Bray for the first time!!!!!! I don’t think any of us expected this group to explore so much the first time, it was amazing to watch.

Rayne walked out onto the Bray, not a hair was pilo, like she had always belonged there. It was really magical to watch her be so confident walking out into the unknown, she was truly at ease.

Terry explored so much!

Willy B surprised us! He never really explored much when he was in the the old courtyard, but today he explored everything, even the top of Esher.

There is so much more we want to share, but it will have to wait until tomorrow! All I want to say is that we are so proud of them, not everyone went out, it will still take some time for them to get comfortable, but today for all of us staff this felt sooo good!

We will be splitting Hill time between the two groups until Rayne’s group becomes more comfort and secure on the Bray, but we have started the process!

Kelsi, this good news comes at the perfect time!
Was Willy B first out the door?!
Must be like the 7….they’d seen the construction, they’d felt the air, they knew it was for them.
    Can’t wait for video!

Yay!! It was quite a happy surprise seeing at least some of the kids in the Bray. I was shocked to find that Willy B was one of them. I’m so anxious to see more video and find out what Honey B thinks of it all, if she ventures out!

What wonderful uplifting news…..so badly needed. I love seeing Negra enjoying her time outdoors and just sitting and taking in the views, sunshine and her favourite snack…..J.B’s equation the other day was hilarious, but I’m sure Jody’s passing affected her and Burrito so much. And now….wow! I often watch Willy B’s first attempts at going outside…..the temptation of the food was just too great, but scampering back to the safety of being near the door as soon as he’d grabbed something. His new found confidence is awesome, and this time he must have actually stepped on grass?? I have no doubt that the others will soon follow and realize their new freedom at last.

I’m also curious to hear anout their relationship with grass these days!:heartpulse:

Oh, my heart be still!! I’m so thrilled about this news of the new group having access to the outdoors now! And I remember that Willy B wouldn’t even walk on the grass in the enclosure when he, Honey B & Mave first arrived but did venture once out onto one of the structures briefly. This is really very exciting and bodes so well for all sorts of new adventures they’ll have once the others decide that outdoors is fabulous. And I love seeing Neggie sitting on the cool grass surveying her territory with such a calm expression. Thanks to the staff for deciding that now is the right time for new adventures for the new group, and for us out here in blogland as well! I look forward to seeing Mave sitting outdoors in her Buddha pose and eyes closed with the breeze wafting around her!!
