Brave Lucky!

May 20, 2023 by Anna

I had a different blog all typed and ready to go… But then we opened the Bray for Cy’s group… AND LUCKY DECIDED TO GO OUTSIDE!! Up until today, Lucky has been hesitant but curious about the big outdoor space. She hasn’t really committed to taking more than a step outside, until this afternoon. This afternoon was her time to take the plunge into the great outdoors.

Lucky made it to the first walkway on the Bray:

A sweet face of wonderment:

Then she started to climb!

Next she started to explore more:

Relax…

And take it all in…

She even relaxed enough to groom with her friend Gordo:

Brave Lucky at the top of the platform ♥️

Seeing things like this is why all of you do what you do for these people! So happy for Lucky and her big day out!

Good for Lucky! So now are there 3 of them who’ve ventured out- Lucky, Gordo, Willy B? I’ve been so hoping they’d find the courage to go out there and test the waters- er, grasses. Wanting them to really find all the freedom they finally have.

Thank you, Anna! I always find it interesting that The Californians do things outside that the seven never have, such as sleep and groom.

It must be Surreal for them to actually come Outside and see things from a Whole New Perspective….. to see where You Live ……to truly Feel Free with so many Choices and so many Smells…. to know Rain and a Sunset and a Beautiful Spring Breeze ….. and from a High Platform no less …… I feel like they’re Our Children taking their first step:grin:

Great photos capturing a monumental event….. one of many that CSNW has provided the opportunity for the chimps and the watchers to enjoy! Thanks Anna.

There’s something about Lucky. She has the sweetest expressions. Won me over at first sight. Todays adventure is fantastic! So brave. And just look at her!! Hanging out and sitting down, relaxing, comfy enough to groom with Gordo. Wow. “A sweet face of wonderment”—Your caption and photo combined had me weak in the knees. Nailed it!

Thanks, Anna, for writing two blogs today. This, THIS, was wildly newsworthy. Please save that first post for another day. 😉

It warms my heart to see Lucky getting up the courage to go out and climb. Thank you for the pictures. I can’t wait to see that Honey B has conquered her fears and entered the scary Bray.

If this weather doesn’t get you outside I don’t know what will?

I wonder what makes the difference between ‘scared of the outdoors’ to having the courage a little while later to explore and enjoy? I just hope that the remaining girls follow brave Lucky’s lead. Perhaps Negra can tell them about the delicious Spring grass to entice them out??

She was able to do this because she feels safe, and you, Anna, and your colleagues give her that feeling. So bravo to you!

    What a sight!
Glad she had the courage to take the big step, and I am sure she is glad she did!!
To see her sitting on the structure with both her legs dangling over the edge….Priceless.

Lucky’s “sweet face of wonderment” made me catch my breath! Seeing the beautiful world through her eyes, renewed my tired soul. Wonderful!

I agree with Kathleen — that “sweet face of wonderment” just says it all! She clearly felt safe enough to go on this adventure and explore the newness of it all, even if tentatively at first. Just fabulous!! I love that shot of her dangling legs off the edge while she’s surveying “her” territory. It such a good sign of how much she’s settling into her new life. As it expands, so does her ability to take risks and explore. It’s thrilling to be a part of it with her!!
