First Looks

April 6, 2023 by Anna

One of my favorite parts of the morning routine is when we first open the door that leads to Young’s Hill. Some chimps like Burrito will run out into the enclosure with gusto, while others will take a moment to scan the horizon before setting out on an adventure.

Here Foxie, Annie and Jody take it all in.

Yes we do a perimeter check of our own before the chimps can have access to there outdoor space!

I love these expressions of anticipation, Anna. Are there any ideas about when the new large group will be able to explore their outdoor area? I’m hopeful they will all venture forth with glee (after checking it all out, of course).

When ever, ever, ever I think of the lives that these chimps had for so many years without the freedom to choose and without a beautiful area to romp in, I think that they may take a moment to reflect on WOW I don’t have to go out there if I don’t want to, so let me decide if I want to. That’s one of the blessings of their lives NOW, freedom to choose.
