The other day we were sharing tips on how to get on Jamie’s good side. Jamie can be a tough nut to crack sometimes, because of this, building a friendship with Jamie has been a true pleasure of mine.
Top 10 tips to help you make friends with Jamie:
1. Quality time- Jamie appreciates when you make time for her or show that you find her to be a priority.
2. Wear a good part of Jamie approved boots- Xtratufs, cowboy boots, Doc Martens, or something new she hasn’t seen yet!
3. Always be willing to find the item she is requesting- She always has something in particular she is looking for like a book, boot, person to wear said boot.
4. Go on as many walks with her as per her request- especially with the gator and her favorite book.
5. Don’t forget to drop everything if she wants you to play with her- remember she has a silly side.
6. Give her all of the pears and all of the leeks!
7. Make sure to sit and groom with her when she asks.
8. All of the food puzzles are hers ;).
9. Make sure she has an endless supply of snow or drinks from the hose when cleaning.
10. Before you leave for the night make sure she has her favorite boot and book.
Of course there are so many more ways to please Jamie, but these are just a few that seem to bring her happiness.

Thank you Kelsi,
It is my life goal to be friends with Jamie. So I really appreciate the tips .:revolving_hearts:
Those portrait pic’s of her are Beautiful. and there couldn’t be a bigger difference between the intense look of the boss and the cute goofiness of little Foxie, with the peanut lips, so sweet.
how do you know what they want like how do they show you they want something?
I think either Grace or Jenna just did a blog on this a couple of weeks back. i believe there’s a YT video with it. Maybe it was called “Communication “?
Sandy, check the blog of February 5 on Non-Verbal Communication.
A comparison of eyes is interesting…The Boss with her piercing ones, Burrito and his dark pools of fun and cheekiness! Perhaps a guessing game showing just eyes and who is who would be good?? I’m good at the Cle Elum seven but still struggle with the nine.
This tribute to Jamie is wonderful. I must admit (though don’t tell any of the others) that Jamie has been my “first love” since learning of the sanctuary. I know she has a strong personality that has earned her “The Boss” title, and that throwing poop is one of her ways of expressing her strong opinions. I have to forgive her for that (of course, I’ve not been on the receiving end of those opinions!). One of the most powerful images I have of her is a pic of her lying on the ground drawing on paper with colored pencils with great intent and purpose, expressing her creativity with gusto and verve. Somewhere in the archives there’s a wonderful series of pics of her doing just that. The famous modernist artist Jackson Pollock would be impressed. I’m so grateful that by whatever means she ended up at CSNW and is living her best possible life there with human and chimp friends who care about her. Her very old soul deserves all this lifetime can offer her and I’m happy to be a part of her team from afar. Talk about an old soul — just look into those eyes. I’ll be happy when she can soon dictate the staff’s driving alongside her with the gator this spring!
Oh what I would give to earn the friendship of Jamie. Very important information for me to study. Thanks, Kelsi! I love tip #10. And the photo session of Jamie and Foxie are excellent! Sunshine for a cloudy day.
There is no doubt that you and Jamie have a special relationship. I remember that great selfie of you on Young’s Hill with Jamie in the background (on her side of the fencing of course). A favorite photo of mine.
I love these photographs of Foxie and Jamie, which capture their beauty and intelligence. Notwithstanding some occasional displays of the Boss involving projectile hydrocarbons (I surmise that she has her reasons), I treasure the videos where Jamie is interacting with the humans under her supervision at the sanctuary that she operates. She may be a woman of few words, but she always had a lot to communicate.
Gotta love Jamie!!
Knowing that two of her favourite things are boots and books, I’ve had a little photo-book made for her called “Jamie’s Book of Boots”. It’s on its way to the sanctuary – I do hope it will be suitable for her!
