A Lucky Day

November 6, 2022 by Grace

Winter may officially be at the sanctuary, but that doesn’t stop our celebration train from rollin’ through! Today we got to celebrate Lucky’s birthday. Lucky was born on November 6th, 1991 and is the youngest chimp here at CSNW.

Lucky was born at the the Laboratory for Experimental Medicine and Surgery in Primates (LEMSIP) and is a full sibling to Cy and half sibling to Rayne and Honey B. Lucky came to CSNW with the Lucky Six in 2021 and is in the newly integrated group of nine.

Lucky might seem aloof to many of our blog readers, since she is often doing her own thing, but she has a goofy side to her as well. She really, really enjoys grooming the scabs off of her caregivers, will make bubbly-sounding raspberry noises with her mouth when she wants something, and is known to scoot across the floor while grasping blankets in front of her (see more here). She is a sweet, sweet lady and we are very lucky to celebrate her!

We also want to take a moment to say thank you to our amazing supporter Paulette Wrisley for sponsoring this day for Our Lucky Star. We couldn’t do the things we do without our amazing supporters and we are so grateful to you!

“Lucky may seem aloof to many of our blog’s readers, since she is often doing her own thing”. I should hope that our lucky birthday girl should always do her own thing, today and everyday. May a lofty prrch await her in the Bray from which she can look down…and find items which she can scoot on her own unique and efficient manner. Happy birthday to you, Miss L.

Aw, happy birthday Lucky, and thanks to Paulette (and to Grace for the video). We’ve had a solid week of videos!
Really enjoyed seeing Lucky excited for the mangos–It seems that’s one of her favorites!
And someone fending off a Terry attack during the excitement.

Did Neggie get some oatmeal? I didn’t see her come out.

Happy birthday dearest Lucky. Looks like a wonderful celebration and we could call all the Chimps and Bovine Lucky to be at CSNW with all the care and love they have there. Thank you!

Nice to learn a bit more about Lucky. Wandered back a bit and found several close-ups of her. Maybe it was Mave’s birthday. Photos focused on her eyes, while the rest was slightly softer. Beautiful lady, she is.
I’m glad I stumbled upon CSNW, where I think the chimps are finally finding their best lives. Thank you!

There’s something about Lucky, she captured hy heart from day one. Mango madess, loved seeing her so excited over her favorite food. Your oatmeal fruit cups are a great idea, especially on wintery feeling days!

Thanks so much, Grace, for capturing these special moments. Love your phoyo selection. Thank you to CSNW’s very own dear birthday fairy too!

    Happy Birthday sweet Lucky!

I never ate a mango until a few years ago, and now I totally have the same reaction that Lucky has. I still can’t get over how many chimps there are at CSNW!

Thank you for the video Grace; wonderful to see every one ( except Neggie ) dive into the oatmeal.
Did I see it correctly; Terry stuffing his face with cup and all???
And that Willy B reminds me of those American men in the 50ties with a clean buzzcut I think it was called…
What beautiful pictures you have given us today.

i’m just now seeing this! Wow I have never seen an excited Lucky. I’m still smiling:blush:That was amazing! What a difference, to see another side of her. I can’t wait to see her out in the Bray.

You have me craving mangoes! Hers looked absolutely perfect. Not too soft, not too hard.
