As caregiver Grace and I were cleaning Burrito’s playroom, I saw him and Missy engage in a fun play session. They were having such a fun time, the play session lasted a very long time. Every time I tried to pull away from recording to help Grace clean, they would engage in a different game that I had to record.
Here are some bonus photos as well!
Annie eating her breakfast chow biscuits while watching the construction crew work on Young’s Hill.
Gordo also watching the construction while sitting inside a Prima-Rocker in the Oakwood Greenhouse.
Then sitting in one of his favorite spots, the window ledge.
Mave waiting for lunch service to begin.
Negra still cozy in her nest as I said good morning to her when I got in.
Lucky being beautiful as always!
And this guy! I can only imagine what is going through his head.
Oh right! Playing! That’s what’s on his mind!
And don’t forget, Giving Day for Apes is right around the corner! Tuesday, October 11th to be exact! You can help us by donating on our page or by creating a fundraiser page of your own! I like to think that she wants to remind Missy:
hey girl, remember I am your bestie!!!

I never get tired of watching Burrito’s magic spins! I think he invented the word ‘play’…..he never tires of having fun with all of his many friends, chimpanzee and human varieties.

Thank you, caregivers of our friends who live at the Sanctuary, for providing these beautiful photographs and this video for today’s blog posting. Burrito and Missy demonstrate how to celebrate World Animal Day! Either that, or Dr. Missy is trying to conduct an exam with a very ticklish patient!
As I read the tributes to Dr. Carolyn Beznar, I came across in the archives mention of another primatological veterinarian, Dr. Mel Richardson. For the care and professional expertise which they provided to Dr. Erin and the chimpanzees in their care, I am grateful for their life, work, and witness. As this fourth day of October also coincides with the Feast of the patron of animals, I am reminded of the words attributed to that Assisian, to aspire to make of his life and work an instrument of peace. In their knowledge, skill and compassion for animals, the same can be said of the lives and works of Drs. Richardson and Beznar.
Also, on this October 4th, the look on Annie’s face in the photograph as she looks out at the construction apace on Young’s Hill seems to recommend that those humans need to get a move on: she has some new heights on her hill to climb!

We all know what’s on his mind, lol: “Chad’s here! Yay! It’s a Chad day! Play, play, play!”
It makes sense that the 2 sanctuary energizer bunnies would play together. It’s more surprising that we haven’t seen it often.
Poor Interrupting Annie …. she almost seemed to be having a Rudolph moment there.
The way she crosses her arms in that photo looks like the pose actors playing cowboys always took, their hands crossed over the saddlehorn…
Thanks for the wonderful video and pics, Chad!

As i read about the various prizes awarded during Giving Day, I have to admit i’m a little confused about how these bonus prizes sre awarded. Is it ok for us, a small but mighty group of followers, to band together and donate during a certain time to hopefully get a bit of pocket change for our little chimp families? How can we do this?

how many more of the 20 million insulators remain to be installed….? and beyond that hurdle, the wire….?

Fantastic!! I had a blast watching those two knuckleheads! Thanks for hanging in there and capturing it all.
Poor Annie! She kept trying to be included in some of the fun but to no avail. Sigh. She does love her Missy.
And I see the winter paneling is up in places. Can we do summer all over again please?!
Thanks, Chad, for this mega video (mega long and mega funny) and the wonderful photos too.

I just had to watch this agin. Cracks me up when Burrito swats away that bee in the beginning. He is such a character! Always good for a laugh.
And I love the photo of Gordo in his rocker. So personal spying on him from behind as he stares outside watching the scenery transform before him.

At the beginning of the video, what ws in Burrito’s mouth? It looked like a toorthpick, but I don’t think that is was.

Burrito has a wooden block, as per usual. Missy is the one who has what looks like a toothpick in her mouth. When they are in the greenhouse, she is in the habit of pulling a splinter off 1 of the poles and using it as a grooming tool. My guess is that’s what it was intended for
