Go Nuts For Coconuts

October 18, 2022 by Chad de Bree

When caregivers get done cleaning the playrooms, we usually put a forage inside to convince the chimpanzees to take up our invitation to go into the newly cleaned area and leave the one we want to close off to clean. These forages are smaller than the lunch forages and more often than not made of greens like lettuce, cabbage, kale, etc. But every so often we like to surprise them with something a little more exciting. Today, their invitation was made for them to go nuts! It was coconuts!

The chimpanzees seemed to really love it. Especially Burrito! As you can see in the video, sometimes the anticipation is the best part of the of the excitment of things to come!

Here are some photos of Negra with the pieces of coconut she got during the forage:

And Jody and Jamie enjoying a browse of cornstalks in their Greenhouse:

And this guy (Burrito!) playing with caregiver Kelsi!

And as a reminder, the Countdown to Jamieween has begun! There are still some items on the wish list we think she and her family would like!

    Thank you, Chad!
And Kelsi has a smashing good time, too! I would be so afraid of hurting that precious heated floor! I guess it’s tough!
    I’m loving Jojo’s belly lately 😉
I do love to see the anticipation before a treat, as well as the squeaks when the treat arrives!

There must be something very different in their brain cavity…if I spent as much time upside down as they do, I know I would pass out and bust my butt down to the lower level………..

Oh my goodness …..in the one picture you were talking about the corn stalks and I saw the fire hose hanging …..I thought what the hell…… where are they getting their corn stalks from? 🙂

You called it fun, but I wonder. At a certain point, when Foxie is pushig Burrito away, i felt some anger and frustration on her part with him. A get away, Burrito, challenging him. Maybe I asm wrong, but that is what I picked up. Glad to see Foxie so active with other chimps, great.

Oh geez,Chad! As if having Burrito claim you as his BFF isn’t enough, you get Negra to look you in the eyes with that spectacular expression….and you get kisses!! You just might be the luckiest person ever.

Butrito has such a happy heart. I can’t remember when I laughed as hard or was as silly as Burrito and Co. As Diana said in her recent post–Be like Burrito!
