Willy B in the Recovery Room

September 15, 2022 by Anna

As Grace blogged about yesterday, Willy B took a trip to the clinic yesterday to get some stitches in his right nostril. He has recovered pretty quickly from the anesthesia but will still need to spend a few days apart from his group in order to let his injury heal.

Today he got a visit from his friends through the window between the front rooms and the Lupine Playroom. They were thrilled to get a good look at him and make sure he was doing well.

Gordo and Mave doing an inspection:

The busyness of daily care and planning for Hoot! continues here at the sanctuary so please forgive this short little update!

I’m glad Willy B won’t go back with the others immediately, they might spot those stiches and want to pull them out! I’m looking forward to HOOT TOMORROW.

Do we know who caused this injury to dear Willy?

We do not know (and we rarely know in these types of cases). The group was having a pretty long skurmish so there was lots of back and forth aggression. When you watch these type of fights it’s always so hard to really pinpoint any specific aggressors. Other chimpanzees were injured in this conflict as well (but they didn’t require stitches).

Thank you sharing Willy B’s progress on this very hectic day. He looks as handsome as ever and I can rest at ease knowing his friends are keeping a close eye on him.

Excellent job on the stitches and what a difference a good oral cleaning makes !!!!!but….. ……what’s up with the bald patches… gotta work on that next 🙁

“He has recovered pretty quickly from the anesthesia but will still need to spend a few days apart from his group in order to let his injury heal.” Ah, if only Dr. Missy was one of his in-network providers, I am sure that Willy would already be back for another round of roughhousing. Stitches or not, Will is still handsome as the day is long.

Hi Willy B, get well soon. I’ve got your back, litterally and figuratively.
