As Chad mentioned on Tuesday, Jamie’s Group is off Young’s Hill for the moment so we can complete the new outdoor expansion. Since the original 7 are so used to foraging for their own browse this time of year, it seems particularly important to make sure they still get to sample the edible plants growing naturally on the property. This afternoon Chad visited the pond to harvest some fresh cattails for their enjoyment. I love watching the subtle cattail fluff slowly drift around the greenhouse.

do all the chimps like the waterplants..? the “new bunch” may not have had this in their former diets…
Thanks, Anna!
So pleasant!
Looks like Burrito and Tiny aren’t really into cattails?
I remember when we gathered cattails right after the chimps first summer. a couple of us went over to the pond by Diana and J B’s home. we took over as many as we could carry. I love hearing the chomping sounds.
I’m with Jeani — I adore hearing the sounds of their crunchings and chompings! Thanks for this fun video, Anna. It’s very exciting to think that they’ll have even more space to forage and adventure forth. Looking forward to the unveiling whenever that’s possible down the road.
Oh Chad, thanks for filling in as the chimps forager today. Cattails must be quite the delicacy! And thank you, Anna, for sharing this moment with us. Everyone looks very pleased.
Minutes from my house there is an area of ponds and lakes and on both sides of the road there is a wall of cattails as far as the eye can see. Each year, as I pass through this magical place (every day!), I think of the chimps and smile. I wish I could cut some down and overnight them to you! (Sadly the rules for transporting plants across state lines will not allow me to do this.) So todays post brought me tons of joy. How you not feel joy when you hear that famous munching chimp sound?!
