Missy harvested gold today! I was watching Missy looking around Negra’s cabin. She ever so slyly ran back into the greenhouse with something in her mouth. She had a good sized wasp nest! As Missy delicately ate the larvae her friends took turns food peering, except Jamie. Jamie found her own gold, leftover fingerling potatoes from a forage. She found a large handful and was quite pleased with herself!

Oh come on Missy, give Jody a taste. Look at that face!!

lesson learned—-don’t leave your desert laying around……..as cerebral as Negra appears to be, she will figure out this theft………..!!!

I saw the video earlier, Kelsi! Quite the treat!
I’m glad you mentioned Jamie’s gold, because IIRC, Jamie is the only other one who likes the larvae!

Would mealworms be a treat? I understand they are easy to farm. Might be a project worth pursuing. Maybe a satisfying enrichment? Does their protein come from their chow biscuits? Who is the waif on the lower platform…Jody?
Linda C says
Yep, that’s Jo

This is so amazing. How does she know about larvae? Did she see it on a Nat Geo special? I doubt if all her vegan caregivers ever gave her any. Is this pure instinct? One surprise after another at CSNW.
Francoise says
Negra was born in in the wild. it is quite possible she learned it there.
Linda C says
Funny, isn’t it? the same way they know they can eat prickly lettuce or pine boughs.
Kathleen says
Wow, that’s a score. It’s a big nest! So funny with Jody and Burrito (and you) watching closely.

I’m intrigued as to how the chimps don’t get attacked and stung by the wasps guarding their nest? You wouldn’t catch me disturbing a wasp nest!!
