Welcome to Lucky’s Playhouse

July 11, 2022 by Chad de Bree

I am somewhat sorry for the redundancy of play videos, but I’m sure no one will mind. This play session happened a few days ago. It started out with Lucky playing a game of chase with caregiver Katelyn. Then Honey B couldn’t resist the urge to join in on the fun. Then slowly more and more chimpanzees joined in! And don’t worry! Though Cy and Willy B were not a part of this play session, they were elsewhere grooming with each other. They were off having their own quality time.

Here are some photos taken in between filming the play session:

Lucky, Dora, Gordo, and Terry play:

Dora and Rayne:

And here are some photos from today!

Rayne excitedly watching from a bird’s eye view as breakfast is being brought out:

Dora taking an afternoon nap in the Riverview Greenhouse:

Willy B excited about a pool full of Gatorade:

Honey B’s playface gave me pure JOY! at 1:37-1:40. I had to rewind over and over and over.

      :wave:Hey, Paulette!
I think that play face was Lucky! (Ms Beezus and her freckles were in the back). Hope summer is treating their fairy godmother well!

You’re right, Chad. We don’t mind at all! 😉

How cute were Mave and Gordo!?

And I’m so glad that Willy B doesn’t mind being #2!

What a great summer this is for the sanctuary!

“I am somewhat sorry for the redundancy of the play videos.” Well, I am not! This is an epic play session captured on video. Too much fun! I love the little dance at about 3:30 between Mave and Gordo (or is that Terry?). What luminous play faces!

The other day I was asked: “Where do you see yourself in five years?” I gave the usual happy horse manure about career goals and other money-making pursuits. In reality, I wanted to reply: “I hope that by then I will have found the missing 1.24% of my genetic code and that I can qualify for residence at the Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest!”

oh me too!!! I am striving to qualify as a resident of CSNW. I’d much rather go there than to assisted living or a nursing home!

I want to go too, we would be catered to…our favorite meals, daily cleaning of our living facilities, all the magazines/reading materials we could ask for and as the Beach Boys famously sang FUN, FUN, FUN!!

I can cook, will clean up after myself, and promise not to bite anyone’s ears, or any other body part. Tickling only! 🙂

I am remembering old photos of chimps in labs from my childhood, and knowing what you all doto make these chimps able to choose to play, in fresh air, in space that suits their strength, that they can be content and for the work tointegrate the 7 is awesome~ so glad my daughter was able to volunteer for a season and introduce me to the sanctuary. All the videos are an inspiration and never too much!

I wish all the caregivers could see the videos of US watching these play sessions.Whenever i watch them i am smiling from ear to ear, especially when i remember where the chimps have come from& what they have endured! When i see the nuturing, loving, fun, and playful homes you have created for them, then a tear or two rolls down my face.Tears of pure joy at the grace you have given them.Thank you to all the caregivers& supporters.

Feel free to fill us full of videos everyday, Chad. Never too much! Especially when the videos are of play and shenanigans.

As many noted above, Lucky’s joyful playface made my heart burst! And here I was just saying I never see much of Lucky and if I do she is photographed up high, quietly sitting by herself, observing her world. And then THIS! What a beautiful happy face Lucky has been keeping from us. Made my day. As did Mave and Gordo playing Bounce. Hysterically cute! I can’t stop watching.

What a treat this video was. Thank you Chad!

I must make one more comment. I think this has to be my favorite play video of all. Seeing so many of the 9 playing and having so much fun made my day. I will be watching this one over and over. Thank you ?

What a treat Chad, all those video’s the last couple of days.
    Never too much.
How cute are Mave and Gordo together bouncing away after Gordo asked Mave: wanne play with me and my box?

I am so proud of you all, chimpanzees, caregivers and advisers of what you have accomplished together:
A Verry Happy Family Of Nine.

I also have watched this video about 5 times and see new things each time but overall have the same reaction: Fabulous Fun!!! I adore each of them and the expressions on their faces and moves with each other. Even though there weren’t images of Gordo doing his bunny hop in this video I can still see it in my mind and it gives me such joy each time. Well, they all do, of course, every day. Thanks to all the staff for what you do to help us stay connected “out here” in CSNW-land across the miles.
