A Reading Break With Cy

July 6, 2022 by Grace

This morning was warm and muggy here in Cle Elum, WA. The forecast was calling for rain and the skies have finally opened up, just after Jamie and her pals got back from a walk around Young’s Hill.

With the rain coming down, it is the perfect day to sit on a porch, listen to the rain, enjoy a nice cup of tea (or coffee), and read a good book- which was the inspiration for today’s blog! It’s always nice to share a quiet moment with Cy as he looks over a new magazine or book, and I thought you might enjoy it too!

I love the way he holds down the book with his foot…..after all, isn’t that what feet were made for??

    Thank you Grace!
it’s not raining here in University Place just warm, muggy and very overcast. The Cy portion is priceless; he is so intent even when reading upside down. The music in the background matched perfectly.

Okay. Before I go on a verbal swoon-a-thon over the video I want to ask everyone to please take a moment and look at the first photo of “Cy, reading a new magazine today”. Will you just look at his hair! That little tuft on the top-back of his head, it is simply magnificent. I believe even Nutmeg is envious. Don’t you wish you could stoke his handsome forehead from front to back? Yes, I know this is not ever, absolutely never to be done with a human hand but still, while admiring that photo, the thought totally crossed my mind.

I can’t thank you enough for this delightful video. The snears cracked me up. How can you tell the difference between a uncomfortable-scared snear and a totally excited snear? Thought I’d die when I read the caption about things that make Cy uncomfortable — FLANNEL?!?! Really?! He’s unbelievable! And I found it so very touching the way he would glance up towards you every now and then. What a dear sweet fellow. Isn’t it marvelous Cy loves his books and magazines so much.

When Cy’s group has outside access, after the development of that space is complete, will they be able to see the cattle?
Is it only in books that he fears flannel, or do all the caretakers have to avoid wearing flannel?

I am always relieved to read that rain has fallen on Young’s Hill and the immediate vicinity in the summer. We could certainly use the rain here in the Upper Midwest.

So Cy is NOT cool with flannel?! Oh, no…I thought that flannel shirts were mandatory in the Pacific Northwest. Does Cyrus realize how close he lives to Ground Zero of Grungetopia?! Well, at least cattle and pachyderms are given to other modes of attire.

You beat me to it, Kathleen. i chuckled over his morning hair. Brought to mind a child just out of bed. And the sweet face to match. What an absolute stunner, I’m in love. And making eye contact. And he’s got fab ears!
I’m writing a book on animal eyes. I’ll be sure to exclude rhinos and flannel 🙂 but I can’t do that with elephants. They have the longest eyelashes in the animal kingdom so they’re staying. You’ll just have to cut out the photo.
    Great blog today!

What a fun and heartwarming video of Cy’s relationships with you and his reading materials, Grace! I concur with all that’s been said above. I feel the same way when I’ve seen pics of Jamie and her books, especially her boot books. I find that I’m having vocabulary challenges in my reactions to posts in my comments lately. The word “heartwarming” pops up a LOT and I guess that’s because it’s the perfect description of what happens to me when I see these posts. How about “soul-healing” or “psyche rescuing” as others because that’s truly how I feel with every blog post I see. Thanks to all the staff who put so much time and effort into sharing yours lives with the chimps with us. I’m grateful beyond description.
