As many of you know Missy is what we call a chimps’ chimp. She will have these amazing long play sessions with her chimp friends. But as for us human friends she will bless us with a play session from time to time. So when you get to play it doesn’t matter how long it lasts, it’s just special that it happened!
Bonus photos!
Jody enjoying some yellow goats beard flowers:
Negra foraging for grass:
Gordo was hanging out in the sunny warm Riverview greenhouse. Look how handsome he is!!
Gordo grooming himself:
He is indeed handsome young chimp man!
Thanks for the video and pics, Kelsi!
Thanks, Kelsi. It’s wonderful to see Neggie out in the grass being herself. And Gordo — I wonder when he’s going to bunny hop again & if he does it by himself or only when in a “wagon train” playing with others?! Looks like a lovely spring day at the sanctuary.
She’s a sweetie regardless! I love to see her gymnastics…..Diana once commented on her ‘funny little runners legs’ which still make me laugh.
Just something that came to mind after some reading recently……do the chimps know their names? And do tney respond, or only when it suits them…..like my cats?
I’m sure they know their names. If you look for the video lending a helping hand or something like that you’ll see that Jodie comes and clears away the blankets from the doorway so that JB can clean
here it is!

Thanks Linda, always good to look back at the ‘cute’ videos. I was especially thinking of Burrito who had a name change for instance, and maybe some of the others did too? In line with their amazing intelligence, I would be surprised if they DIDN’T know them.
Oh! I never knew that burrito had a name change
It was in a blog, but some time ago. He used to be Raj if I remember correctly. Burrito suits him far more….delicious and fun!
Oh, no. Raj….that tells me something..:sleepy:
Thanks, Kelsi, for the Missy playing video.
I have a question about the Gordo comment. Yes, he is good looking. From time to time I’ll read comments about W.B, C, T, that refer to their good looks. But I don’t recall ever reading those kinds of descriptive adjectives for the females. Am I
missing something?
I dunno….I think the staff are always commenting on “beautiful Jo” and I (though admittedly not staff) have talked about Lucky being “Annie pretty”, and they knew what I meant…
Maybe it’s because these days, we’ve learned to compliment women for their beains and achievements, and to avoid commenting on their appearance, for fear of backlash. And the staff very much consider our chimpy friends as people, albeit chimpy people. Am interesting observation, and I’m not saying you’re off base at all. But maybe that’s why. (And dang it, those boys are handsome! Burrito may be funny and goofy, but he’ll never be as handsome as Gordito or Willy B….just don’t tell him I said so :wink:)
When people ask you “What did you do at work today?”, you have the best responses! Playing “footsie”, or is that “bootsie”, with Missy is very enviable. Oh how very fortunate you are to have these experinces with nine individuals. And I love this photo of Missy as much as I love your video. Missy appears to have her eyes set on something that gives her pleasure…maybe a tomato? She looks as if she’s ready to take off any minute!
All looks good today. Jody is foraging wild treats, Negra has her favorite grass. Gordo! Incredibly adorable with his leg up. Doing his morning stretches I presume. : )
You had your dancin’ shoes on Kelsi! Albeit horizontal. Missy’s play was very short, but very sweet. And I know you know, it was an honor. There’s no better gift.
ooh The picture of Jodi with a little bouquet of those yellow flowers is going in my photo album!
Gordo is growing on me more and more. Especially after the bunny hop :joy:  So funny!
We still have so much learn in getting to know the six. looking forward to it. Can’t wait. I bet we’ll see even more personality coming out once they have access to the Bray. That will be a first for them! So exciting! i’m just beyond excited for them and I can’t wait!! I just want it for them so badly.
It’s called love. I love them!
The chimps seem to like caregivers boots. How do they react if you take your shoes and socks off to play?
Someone likes barefeet. I think it’s Annie
