Well at least it wasn’t a rattlesnake this time…
Yes, poor Burrito was back in the clinic today to have an infected tooth extracted. Dr. Erin and Sofia were accompanied by Dr. Cristina Bender and her husband, Matt, from Pearl Care Dental in Ellensburg, Dr. Dan Whitemarsh of Cle Elum Dental Clinic, and veterinarian Dr. Austin Hardegree, who ran anesthesia and performed ultrasounds. Our friends at Valley Veterinary Hospital were also kind enough to lend some specialized dental equipment for the afternoon.
Since Burrito would be under anesthesia for the extraction, Jim Repsher, PA-C came to give him injections in both knees to help alleviate his arthritis.
Burrito has been through a lot in the last few years but he seems to somehow bounce back stronger every time. We have no doubt he’ll be up and running again very soon. For now, though, he is going to get some rest under close supervision from Dr. Erin…
…and a his chimp family, of course.
We’re so grateful to all the folks who give their time and energy to help care for Burrito and his family and friends. How fortunate are we to have such an amazing team of people looking after them.
Feel better soon, Bubs.

Poor little Burrito, I’m sending him lot’s of kisses.
The whole thing sounds pretty cool though, I kinda wish someone would knock me out and give me injections in my knee’s. He’s going to wake up a whole new guy! Thank you to such a caring medical team.
I love Missy and Annie watching over him.:revolving_hearts:

A big thanks to Drs Bender, Hardegree, Whitemarsh, Repsher, and as always, Dr Erin, for caring for Bubba. At this point, Dr Erin, you really do seem like part of the family there.
Thanks to the hospital for the equipment.
“Up and running in no time”, indeed. Rest up, Chad!

Bless all the team that cared for Burrito and used their skill and expertise to make him feel better. Get well sweet guy!

I hate to see someone in the clinic again but Burrito will feel so much better with that tooth gone. Thanks for showing what happens during the procedure. I was hoping to see the tooth but maybe Burrito put it under his pillow.
J.B. says
I can post photos of the tooth later but wanted to get it cleaned up first…they don’t look very pretty when they first come out
Laurie Mowat says
I must be gruesome…I wouldn’t mind seeing the before picture. Unless it has to do with humans I find things like that fascinating. Thanks for the cleaned up version though!

Burrito always looks so vulnerable when he’s in surgery, but I guess that’s because he’s usually so full on. Time for Jody to get her nurse’s uniform out again and book in some gentle play dates and companion time.
Hope you feel tons better soon, little man….lots of love and prayers coming your way. ?
Mary Circo says
i love you Burrito! Feel better soon.
dennis lorton says
How did you recognize the bad tooth?
elaine says
I was wondering that too.
J.B. says
There was some slight swelling visible near his nose (by the root of the canine) which did not respond to antihistamines and lasted more than a couple of days.
Kathleen says
I saw the swelling on his upper “lip” by his nose in a recent video! I was going to inquire about it because it looked worrisome but thought you would share when and if the time was right. (I didn’t want to put you on the spot!!)
I remember when one of my dogs cracked her K9 tooth. It was a painful recuperation but she bounced back all the better for having it removed. And for a dog, the entire tooth was huge. Amazing how much of the tooth lives under the gums when it comes to K9 tooth. I can only imagine the size of a chimpanzees!
Be well my dear Bubba. Sending you kisses from a far to rest on your forehead.
Arlene and Michael says
oh bless dear Burrito and all the caregivers and medical team helping him. Hoping for a quick recovery for him so he can get back to playing, being with his friends and enjoying all the foods he loves:)

Oh dear. Burrito has been through a lot in the last few years and right now I am counting on the careful supervision or Dr. Erin to ensure he will bounce back once again. And hopefully his knees will feel like new too.
I am very grateful to everyone who helped today. Thank you!
Please be sure to tell Burrito that we all love him dearly and we look forward to him being back with his family. Keep us posted! xoxo Love you dear boy.
John says
Hey buddy,
Take care and get well soon from me in Chicago. I know your in good hands. Love you, John.

Wow, some people get way more stuff to deal with than others…
Poor Burrito, to have to go through that again; he looks so vunrable in his cosy nest ( with Annie and Missy watching over him ).
But how wonderful to have a whole group of specialists to donate their time and expertize to help Bubba with teeth and knees and overall health. Thank you very much!!
And our own Dr. Erin will make sure he gets better soon.
I agree: Chad, rest wel because he is gonna challenge you with those “new” knees, so be prepared…..

My heart ached seeing the pic of the his family watching from outside the wire mesh.I wonder if seeing him down with tubes running out of him…brings back worry and concern…flashback to the way they were raised and experimented on. Hopefully the love and compassion they are shown here every day has built there trust and when Burrito springs up pain free and full of energy it will only increase. Thank you so much for caring for them.
Lois says
Burrito my chimp pal! Hope you’re feeling better today. You are so resilient and an inspiration to me.
Thanks to great medical staff to care for him & the others. Sending lots of love.
