Happy Sunday, everyone! Here at the sanctuary, it is cloudy and in the low 50’s (before adding in the *aggressive* wind that hits every spring). This means that it has been the perfect day for some much needed R&R… and the chimps have been vibing. Us humans have been enjoying it too – the last few weeks have been so busy, with the integration of the 9 and Negra’s procedure, that we have all been operating under some level of stress.
Today, though, both humans and chimps seem content to go through the day calmly and intentionally. We have been checking things off our daily tasks while the chimps enjoy time together or with the staff. It has been so nice to walk through the chimp house and hear breathy laughter coming from some of the chimps playing or teeth clacking from some serious grooming sessions (looking at you, Willy B). It seems that we all needed some R&R and we are more than happy to soak it in!
Lucky taking a moment for herself in the Oakwood Greenhouse this afternoon. Her brother, Cy, was nearby and they seemed to just be enjoying each others company.
Willy B (read: Chaos Coordinator) about to catch some shut eye after lunch in the Front Rooms.
Terry enjoying a quiet moment in the Oakwood Greenhouse after breakfast. That floof is something else!
Cy watching Terry as Terry watched me take pictures of him (Terry)… make sense?
Burrito taking a nap in-between play sessions.
Annie enjoying the quiet in the warmth of the greenhouse.
Negra is still healing up great and enjoying her mini-staycation, complete with movies on demand, food puzzles, and dancing caregivers.
BONUS PHOTO: Dora from the other day- not in rest or relaxation mode- but in full play mode. The photo from my phone is a bit grainy, but I thought the moment between her and the slinky was too great not to share.
Hope you are able to have some rest and relaxation today, too!
(And knock on wood… I don’t want to jinx the quiet chimp house. 🙂 )

thank you, Grace.
sometimes we all just need a little time to relax and let those stress vibes clear out of our heads. It was so good to hear how Cy took the lead as Alpha for the group. i feel that most times just a simple misunderstanding can esculate because one may not understand the others good intentions it seems that it has helped Willy B feel more at ease. loved watching him with all the others being so calm in Mave’s birthday celebration video .
God Bless.

Hi, Grace!
That makes total sense!
And your pic of Dora turned out fine! Those slinkies get lots of mileage!
Still no pics of Honey B in shuteye mode…
A happy birthday to blog reader Pat F, who’s 90 today! Hope it’s been fabulous, Pat!

Hey! that’s what I was going to say.
:birthday:HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT!
Precious photos of Burrito and Negra today. Oh my heart…
You know, I think seeing Lucky scooting around that paper in Mave’s video was the first time in a very long time I’ve seen her anywhere except on the high platform in the greenhouse, looking down at the camera. It was so nice seeing her have some fun. I think I will go watch that video yet again.

Burrito: I, too, need a nap between play sessions.
Terry: Your floof looks better on you than me.
Love you all.

That sweet photo of Neggie and your description of her “staycation” is just too much. Maybe once she’s all healed, Negra could book her private room one weeken a month? Just a little special getaway? At her age, hasn’t she earned it? 🙂
Seeing these photos makes me realize I’m tired and it’s time for bed. Wonderful photos, the perfect ending to my day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAT! :birthday:
Can’t beat a good day of R&R! And as always, great pics. I love Terry’s floof! Just want to scruff his floofy face, lol. Then next brush Bubba’s long tresses. Annie is beautiful as always. Sweet Dora with a smile on her face and twinkle in her eye. Chaos Coordinator – haha, so true! I’m sure Willy will take that title with pride. But now Cy is there to make sure things don’t get too chaotic!
I think Neggie would agree with Kathleen’s idea for a stay-ca and pampering once a month! Maybe you could even paint her nails:nail_care:a lovely spring shade!

Great pictures Grace, I did not see any grain….
And can I book a week staycation with the sanctuary…I did not know there was entertainment included…sounds fantastic !
How did Negra deal with her nailpolish? Did she even notice?

Grace, thanks for your wonderful post! I love these pics and especially the picture of Dora, slinky in mouth and her barrage of blankies all around her, a wonderful picture of play and self-care. No wonder Terry is so interested in her — she’s a sight to behold! And I’m glad to recall that she gives him a big “NOPE!!” when she’s not in the mood for his attentions. I love Kathleen’s idea of Neggie having a relaxing weekend to herself once a month without all the hoo-ha of the others’ energy.
