Some Things Never Change

May 4, 2022 by Kelsi 7 Comments

As we cautiously move forward with the group of 9 chimps, we are all trying to adjust to a “new” normal for schedules, shifting, and cleaning. Though we don’t know what the future holds for this group, I do want to express that even though we are “cautiously optimistic,” the chimps have worked so hard to build these relationships and their hard work has paid off! We are so proud of them and the way they have been able to navigate difficult social situations so far! While we humans may have helped facilitate these meet ups, they really deserve all the credit for making this group become nine, especially Cy! That guy really knows how to defuse a situation!

Meanwhile, on Jamie’s side of the building, some things never change. This morning Jamie took a nice leisurely stroll while I drove the gator beside her. Burrito and Missy chased each other up Young’s Hill as Annie followed peacefully behind. I took great comfort in doing something so familiar while we have all this change happening. So if today you needed something familiar to ground you and bring you comfort, I hope this video of the chimps on the Hill bring you some joy.

Don’t forget today is the last day for GiveBIG! We are so close to our goal, and you can help us get there!! Also, check out the article written about us in the Yakima Herald!

Grace took these awesome photos of Rayne relaxing in a box in the Oakwood greenhouse:

Kelsi, I love how you ended it with that pic!
Have.the guys from Sage witnessed Jamie’s racing the gator yet? Has she asked to borrow their power tools?

i also liked “Mave’s group” and “Lucky’s group “. I see what you did there 😉

Hi Kelsi! I bet the comfort of the old routine feels pretty good after all the hard work you’ve been involved in. The Seven never disappoint!

Jamie appears to be all business but Burrito and Missy are full of beans! Love the way Burrito spins. Missy keeps looking back to keep a tight eye on her pal Annie, how sweet.

I loved the article, and seeing the names of Jamie, Burrito, et al, in print. And, to conclude today’s blog, what could be better than a “Box of Rayne”?

I keep watching that social studies video. I’m soooo happy for them! Willy B and Dora playing. Mave and Terry. I can’t wait to see more. Especially Ty with one of the three, and Honey B with some of the six.

Are they together 24/7 now? They don’t go home for the night or anything? I was wondering if you left a little door open in case somebody just wanted to go off and be alone for a while. Decompress. That has to be quite the adjustment! Especially for the three. They haven’t been in a big group. And Willy B adjusting to so many other males at once. But then… so many females!!! LOL happy dance! I’ll bet Lucky has been just as chill as Cy. I’m so glad they have Cy!

    It’s 4 AM. ugh
    Nite! Love you!

    Thank you Kelsi.
When I look at all the fencing that is going to be newly placed, moved, reset etc…my goodness that is a HUGE job.!!
But I am convinced all the volunteers will show up and get it done! ( it is too far for me to swim across the ocean I am afraid…).
And who needs a lounge chair, if there is a box to hang out in…..
    Great pictures Grace.
