The weather over here went from full blown Winter, to false Spring, and then back to cold with a chance of snow very quickly. We did not get any snow today, but the day has been chilly, windy, and gloomy. The sun made a brief appearance during the morning and the greenhouses got packed with chimps enjoying their warm spaces. Between the Oakwood and Riverview greenhouses, Cy and Willy B displayed back to back through a viewpoint where both groups can see each other. The displays lasted a few minutes and then they both joined their groups for grooming sessions.
Once the sun hid behind the clouds, most of the chimps went inside to rest in cozy nests. Burrito, though, did not mind the weather and requested two non-stop runs around the hill with caregiver Chad. Jamie felt the same way and made me sprint the entire way around the hill. Cardio for the day: Done.
Last Friday our very own Barn Kitty AKA B.K. made his way back to the Sanctuary grounds! During the Winter he tends to leave for an unknown amount of time and it is always very exciting to see him come back to us. Here he is:
Dora high up in the platforms of Oakwood greenhouse
Mave soaking in the few rays of sunshine that made it through today
Willy B on the platform across from Mave in Riverview greenhouse
Cy going through some magazines
Rayne nesting while wrapped in a pride flag
Gordo mid-inspection of a magazine
Linda C says
So great to see the displays getting shorter! And everyone enjoying the platforms and the design
Thanks for the pics, Sofía!
Sofia Castro-Loza says
Aww thank you, Linda, it always means a lot!
Linda C says
You’re welcome!

Oh, I am so glad to learn of the return from points unknown of the Barn Kitty! I am so envious of the job he holds at the Sanctuary. It is heartening to see that Cy shares his magazines with Gordo. As always, I am proud of Rayne with or absent her raynebow-striped blanket.
Tobin says
Lady Rayne and her Raynebow cloak call to mind the lyrics of an old tune from 1967 which the R. Stones recorded as a paean to Psychedelia:
“Have you seen her all in gold?
Like a queen in days of old
She shoots colours all around
Like a sunset going down
Have you seen a lady fairer?
“She comes in colours ev’rywhere
She combs her hair
She’s like a rainbow…”
Lucy says
That’s a wonderful song for her!:blush:such beautiful creatures :purple_heart:
Nancy Duryea says
Could Rayne be trying to giving you a subtle (perhaps not so subtle) hint wrapped in her pride blanket? She looks adorable.
I’m thinking that Cy and Gordo could start a lending library, although they shouldn’t expect to have the magazines returned in one piece.

Fun pix! When barn kitty is home, does he get fed?
How about a few snaps of new(ish) rescue doggo?
Sofia Castro-Loza says
Yes, BK gets fed every morning when he is around 🙂
Debi says
I’m smiling at gorgeous Barn Kitty…I have a special soft spot for tuxedo’s…My latest rescue is a ….G U L P…
THIRTY POUND tuxedo…Yes, “Senior Freddie” needs to lose weight, but he is quite the sweetest, most affectionate, perfect gentleman…My poor son has just ordered a third halter from Amazon as the first two were way too small for “overfed Fred”…HaHa. (BTW, thankfully he’s loving going outside for walks)…
Linda C says
Debi, “overfed Fred” had me laughing out loud!
Karen says
To me, Gordo always looks like he is saying ” What? Why are you looking at me?”. He is fast becoming one of my “favorites”! (Even though I do seem to have 16 favorites )
Kathleen says
A new mystery. Where does B.K. reside during the cold winter months?! A kindhearted neighbor must take him in. Once the days grow longer, B.K. realizes it’s time to move back to his sanctuary home and friends.
Who among us wouldn’t want to live alongside hill running Burrito and Jamie, dear Dora and Mave, pride rainbow Rayne, and Willy B and Cy and Gordo?! I totally understand Barn Kitty. 🙂
Laurie Mowat says
Rayne in her second photo really looks like she’s ready for Spring.
Amy Bianco says
Great photos and commentary! Does Cy always look at the magazines with the pages right side up? How about Gordo?
Linda C says
to me, it’s so funny that, even though they must process visual images like us, Cy and Jamie are actually *studying* those images in a way other chimps don’t. Those images represent a reality that they’re not famiar with, but they’re interested in it, all the same.
