Tuesday has been a normal day consisting of cleaning, preparing meals and enrichment, a one-on-one introduction, and also about getting ready for Thanksgiving day. As usual the chimps will get an entire feast just for them with their favorite food items and Fall themed enrichment. On the other hand, the humans will be getting together for an early thanksgiving pot luck tomorrow night. This will consist of homemade traditional Thanksgiving meals, or what we each consider to be traditional. In my case, I’ll bring a vegan sweet potato and marshmallow casserole and although it is not a dish commonly made back home in Puerto Rico on this occasion, I like it so much that I would always require my family to make it just for me. I’ve been told that caregiver Chad makes a mean Nasi Goreng fried rice that is very famous in the chimp house so there is a lot to look forward to.
Enough about food, let’s taco about today’s introductions. I know we have said it before, but even though we plan ahead for possible introduction pairings, the chimps get the final say and that is exactly what happened today. Honey B and Willy B conspired together to not allow us to access the Mezzanine for cleaning, which directly dictated the fate of today’s pairing options for introductions. During lunch time, Willy B shifted out and Honey B remained up there meaning she was the one that was going to hang out with one of the California Six. On the six’s group, Cy was the one that wanted to stay in the front rooms so that made the decision easy for us. This introduction ended up being very low-key, with an on edge Honey B and only a few direct interactions but all in all positive.
Cy reading a magazine. Not pictured here are Cy’s happy sounds while reading.
Dora hanging out in the green house.
Lucky in her favorite spot of the front rooms with a slinky.
BONUS: A beautiful rainbow over Young’s Hill taken by caregiver Chad.

The “reading a magazine” always cracks me up. They really look like they know what they are looking at….no upside down books and mags Amazing

I would love to hear his happy reading sounds.
Paulette says
go to YouTube and put in the search bar “Cy and his magazines”. Then listen closely, they are very faint

Another video titled “Cy looks at magazines” you can hear Cy very well

Happy early Thanksgiving humans. I hope you have a great potluck dinner. Many, many thanks for the amazing work you do!

Well, happy first Thanksgiving at the chimp house, Sofía!
I know they’re badic, but some tostones? I’ll bet the chimps would love them.
And that reminds me! A couple of years ago, someone (Kelsi?) found plantain leaves, and they weren’t totally sure what to do with them …how about some Christmas pasteles?! wouldn’t the chimps just love to find them with a couple of raisins inside!?

In my experience there is a sort of fluffy stuff on the leaves of the plantain, that makes your eyes tear and throat sore……..
I would suggest to leave those leaves…..

This made me go back to a video of “Cy and his magazines” on YouTube to hear his sweet “coo”s.
A low-key visit is better than a bad visit! They played so well together a few months ago in “when Cy met Honey B”
I always enjoy the play dates.
I would love to have some of Chad’s fried rice!! Have a great potluck tomorrow!

I just went back and rewatched the video with the volume a little higher. That is exactly how books make me feel. I just can’t make the cute sounds and get away with it! Thanks for the info. Have a good Thanksgiving.

Fun fact: In regard to Lucky’s slinky, I recently learned in the Altoona, Pennsylvania Public Library that the slinky was invented in the nearby town of Hollidaysburg. I am so grateful that this very useful workout device for Lucky, Willy, Burrito, Rayne, et al was invited…otherwise, I have no idea how Lucky and Co. would maintain their girlish (and/or boylish) figures, not the least of which when a Thanksgiving feast awaits them. Perhaps such news is the source of Cy’s happy sounds from his reading of “Slinkies Illustrated”.

My grandmother worked for the Ohio Art Co. (Etch A Sketch) in Bryan Ohio and also for Spangler candy (candy canes and circus peanuts). As a child I thought those were the most amazing jobs anyone could possibly have!
Tobin says
An Etch-a-Sketch? Hmmm…I wonder how long such an item would last in the hands of someone like Burrito? Jamie, I can only assume, would have a Rubik’s Cube solved in no time.

In my old neighborhood, an engineer who lived down the street designed toys for Hasbro. I thought that sounded like fun. And I’d love to be the one who designs the toys for Kinder eggs
Maureen says
How adorable! In Cy and his magazines, I noted his eyes. So intelligent, curious, focused. And he seemed to smile at something briefly once. And how wonderful how he lit up when greeted by a human at the end of Cy looks at…
How could anyone not be impressed by him?
Kathleen says
Perhaps Honey B was on edge because Cy couldn’t lift his handsome head away from his reading materials and pay attention to her. What’s a girl have to do to get Cy to take notice?! 😉
I hope you all have a festive and scrumptious Thanksgiving pot luck feast tomorrow. It sounds like fun and since each one of you works so incredibly hard every single day ensuring the sanctuary residents live the very best life possible, well, you deserve some fun.
