Greenhouse Days

November 19, 2021 by J.B.

Running a chimpanzee sanctuary in snow country does have its downsides but you can’t beat the cost- and calorie-free enrichment that snow provides. This was the first snowfall for Lucky’s group and they certainly enjoyed their tub of the white stuff in the recently buttoned up greenhouse. It was great to see them peacefully enjoying their warm, sunny space.

OMG what a fabulous smorgasbord of video. It was so great to see Burrito and Missy brachiating together. Even synchronized at one point. Love it!

Then, SNOW! Didn’t take long for it to go in their mouth LOL. Can they see well enough through the panels to know that there was a lot more of it outdoors? Do they know where that tubfull came from? I’ve just been so curious how they would react to snowfall.

Cy looking through the peephole was a literal laugh out loud moment. “Let me see the menu before I make the journey downstairs”

LOVED IT ALL! Thank you for the smile on my face. I just love them so much. Thank you for taking care of them for all of us out here who only wish we could.

I absolutely loved the long montage video! I always appreciate seeing the chimps in extended videos that give us a deeper sense of their personalities. Truly enjoyed today’s video.

Pure beauty! After a long, and far too hot summer, it is heartening to see the return of snow to Young’s Hill. I trust that Rayne and Gordito were pleased with their new aperitif, and thus treated themselves to seconds and thirds. Meanwhile, it appears that Terry placed an order for raspberries.

I have seen Burrito and Missy brachiate before, but not together in such expertly-synchronized play. And how lucky we are to see and hear Lucky laugh as heartily as she does! I love observing the residents of this sanctuary enjoying their lives.

I am luaghing so very hard over “Meanwhile, it appears that Terry placed an order for raspberries.”

Thank you for the videos! It’s so nice to see them up close going about their day. They made me smile 🙂

I will echo Paulette’s comment–what a wonderful video! If there was snow, at least the sun was shining bright while you were cleaning!
Foxie doing her flips in the window sill, and Jamie telling JB, “dance, monkey, dance!”

What a fantastic video…this will get played over and over. Lovely to see the two athletes having a workout, and it’s always a treat to see them all enjoying their food so much. Terry takes top prize for raspberry blowing! Is there a ‘pecking order’ for who gets fed first etc in the new group?

Not really. We often ask Gordo to “station” so that he doesn’t steal food from the others but over the past few months he’s gotten so much more relaxed that we don’t need to do this every time. Other than Gordo’s occasional stealing, it doesn’t seem to matter much to them who gets served first.

JB, have Cy, Willy B and others shared a meal together yet?

Yes, we’ve served a couple meals when the groups have been getting along great and we haven’t wanted to split them up too soon. So far, so good!

Cy would probably be first, if he could tear himself away from his magazines…looks like Gordo went first.

Paulette is right, that was a smorgasbord of a video. Missy and Burrito and their muscular little dangling legs! Too good for words. And the first bucket of Snow Snack for The Six. What a new and mysterious treat! And I believe that was our first view of mealtime between the two California groups. It seems the girls were more interested in J.B. than eating their food. I think they are crushing on you J.B. And I let a little sigh, like a heart melt sigh, when I saw Willy B still with his Frizbee in front of him at mealtime. Love that fellow.

Thanks for this in depth view of November 19! Your time is greatly appreciated.

This was such a wonderful video to greet my day that I watched it again on our big screen TV through YouTube! it’s even more fantastic there for my old eyes! Yesterday in Spokane, we had snow as well and wondered if you had too. Loved their snow snack and all of the sweet munching they did. Their sweet faces, amazing personalities and the noises they make just melt my heart! Ditto on everything mentioned above!! Thank you care team, you’re all awesome!??
