On any given day you can bet that we are cleaning around Cy and Lucky. These two are known holdouts and when they decide to stay somewhere they settle in for the long haul. Pretty much if they decided to stay in the front rooms you have no luck in cleaning the front rooms. Though this may throw a wrench in our schedule, they are great company!
Cy reading his magazine in front room 6 while we clean front room 5 and the chute.
Lucky taking a little snooze next to Cy.
Today we also put a “Foot Box” in front room 5 just like on the other side of the building. The purpose of the foot box is so that the chimps can present a hand or foot and we can get a x-ray. Obviously the foot box is new and it has to go through a rigorous inspection process by the chimps. I would say it passes their inspection standards as you will see in the video above.
Rayne and Gordo looking in.
Terry taking a little peek!
Bonus!
Missy, Jody, and Burrito have a very nice grooming session.

The knocking on the box gave me an idea — these folks need bongos!! Now we can guess who’d be the first to bang on them — Jamie? Terry? Gordo? Honey B? Who knows! Thanks to the staff for letting us in on the installation of the foot box!

I kind of like the sound of “Burrito and his bongo band”.
marianne says
But there already ìs a band…Jamie on drum ( the big blue one ), Burrito on window, and also Jamie on Ukulele, or maybe some other person can take that instrument ( Mave??).

Now, most of us would agree that we don’t appreciate being rushed or interrupted when we are enjoying that particular something we enjoy, napping, reading, etc. Perhaps the chimps could be enlisted to help with the cleaning (many hands make light work). I can tell the footbox did indeed pass inspection, the pictures and videos were so adorable!!

this box presupposes a cooperative attitude by the chimps……

That video is adorable!

When “2001: A Space Oddessy” was released, the notoriously persnickety movie critic Pauline Kael (and, boy, could she ever criticize movies at length!) carped that the film was “Painfully unimaginative.” She didn’t elaborate; know-it-all that she was, she needn’t concern herself with exposition. No doubt she took umbrage of the opening scene where the primates are simultaneously curious and apprehensive about the mysterious black monolith which, to their surprise, appears in their midst.
Watching Gordo, Rayne and Co. inspect the mysterious foot box which has suddenly appeared in their environs brought to mind that scene. Had Stanley Kubrick placed a x-ray capable foot box in place of the monolith, who knows?…maybe “2001” would have earned a glowing review in the pages of the “New Yorker.” Needless to say, Gordo projects considerably more acting talent in today’s video than Hal 9000 as the sabotaging computer did in his short-lived cinematic career.

The Foot Box never disappoints. That was the best! An excellent perspective….Dora’s BIG curious eyes and Gordo’s sucker punch right off the bat. Knocking, tapping, sniffing, that was one hardcore inspection. What a treat it must be to sit there and witness their reactions to a new curiosity firsthand. So, did everyone approve?!
Is that Dora with the missing finger?
Linda C says
For some reason, I thought it was either Rayne or Lucky with the missing toe (it showed in one of their greenhouse photos just a few days ago, but I can´t remember if it was Dora the Explorer)
Elaine Reininger says
Too funny for words. That’s all I can say.

I keep watching this video. It dawned on me that this just might be the first instance where they can look through a clear surface (the plexiglass top) and have access to the other side. To actually touch the backside of the see-through window and to have access to the space beneath/beyond. So beyond just the curiosity of the box alone, that’s got to be very intriguing indeed!
I recall when *someone* left a troll in their box when the first foot box arrived on the scene. Wonder what you might find in this box some morning. Maybe Cy will use it as a book depository!

Annie almost looks like she´s grooming while standing on her head!
