Last week one of our supporters very excitingly asked when expansion work was going to begin, and I’m happy to inform everyone that today was the day. During the morning, Gary’s Sage Mechanical crew came in to do some work on top of Young’s Hill. This meant that Jamie and her six friends could not go out on the hill during that time but that did not mean that they were unaware that some humans were in need of chimp supervision. After work concluded and it was safe to give them access to the hill, Jamie, Annie, Missy, Foxie, Burrito and Jody sprinted up the hill to assess the situation. Jody went back inside the safety of the green house shortly after, might have been too scary of a situation. On the way up Missy asked for reassurance from all her friends. First from Burrito, then Jamie, and finally from Foxie who gladly complied. Annie was the first one to arrive and climbed up the Twister to get a better view. Jamie, of course, was very excited to see new people but more excited about seeing new boots.

After brief visual inspection, the construction boots pass the test and are worthy of a run around the hill.

With Annie supervising the work crew, I just can’t see anything going wrong.

Yes! Now no dawdling, get a move on, giddyup, apurate, rapidamente, andeley andeley! Excited for the nine to have The Bray and Ryan’s Tower! New freedoms.
Loved the reactions of the Seven. they are so amazing and endearing, and SMART!

with all the things that changed through their lives, they would have misgivings about activites that they perceive to be threating another change….keeping them “informed” by their inclusion in the project will go a long way toward relieving their questions……

Another BIG day for the record books at CSNW! How exciting. And from the looks of Missy, Foxie, and the dashing for the greenhouse Jody….. perhaps it was a tad anxiety ridden day as well. I totally melted when I saw the photo of Foxie reassuring Missy. But my joy over seeing once-fearful-but-feraful-no-more Annie made me so incredibly proud of who she is today. Seeing Annie on the Twister all by her brave self made me realize all would be well. I am sure changing the backyard of the original seven will bring on some stress for them. Change, and the breaking of routines, can be difficult to adjust to. But as Annie showed us from the high pinnacle of the Twister, once your fear dissipates, you realize you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem….
I wonder what the Lucky Six think of your current weather. Let’s face it, snow will be a whole new experience but rain is just foreign to a true Californian!

Thanks, Sofía!
I’m always amazed (and proud) that sweet, low-ranking Annie is usually the first to climb up high and check out what’s going on!
Glad the Boss got to check out some new boots. like an early birthday present.
Sure hope the Californians see the Bray as the 7 saw the hill: something that is there for them, something exciting to explore!

Very exciting news, and I cannot wait for the photo’s or films of the work.
I do hope that no trees will have to be feld, but can be incorpotated into the new inclosure…but I am aware that there can not be high trees to facilitate climbing out of the Bray…

P.S.
It looks like that box had to endure a few different Chimpanzee bums in the last couple of days……
