What A Day Pt. II

September 28, 2021 by Chad de Bree

Today was another day! Yesterday, Cy, Lucky, Willy B, and Honey B met all together and even had a sleepover together. Overall, the sleepover went well. So today we decide to let Rayne and Mave partake the meetings. There were some ups and downs with the six(!) chimpanzees. We ultimately decided to just let them meet at the mesh for today. I wasn’t able to get enough photos or footage to piece together a video of today’s meetings… however… caregiver Sam was ever so gracious enough to allow me to share the video she was working on of the meetings that took place on Sunday!

Along with Sam’s video, please enjoy some of the photos I was able to take before introductions. I was not able to choose between some, so I had some other caregivers help chose which ones to use, but the consensus was to post two of each.

Though virtually the same, small little nuances make each photo different!

Jamie enjoying today’s browse of rose hips:

Enjoying the rose hips

Mave in her Greenhouse:

A straight shot of Mave looking at the camera
The addition of the lip bite

And one final photo of Lucky!

    what is Lucky thinking…?

Perhaps she’s thinking, “Over the past three months I’ve reconnected with my sister Honey B, but all she wants to do is bite my feet. What’s up with that? I thought that she was staunchly vegan.”

I love Mave, she should be involved in every meetup, she’s a real peace-maker :two_hearts:
Jamie looks so happy with her rose hips.
Thanks for the sweet photos today.

When she first went on, it did look like she was tryong to break something up.. but she’s not the party police, after all!

That was my thought too, Mave the peacemaker! I know she and Cy had a little skirmish a week or so ago, but they worked it out. She and Cy seem to have high social intelligence and a calming influence, hopefully that will help the integration. Of course, I only know the small snippets of video and comentary I see,

The Boss makes rose hips look as good as raspberries! always good to see her smile!
How great is Mavis’s lip bite!?
Thanks, Chad, those are all great!

So happy about the successful sleepover. You are making great strides with your introductions. An attempt with six together! I am thrilled for all of you.

This video is just full of joy. I had to crank up the volume because the laughter, that wonderful breathy laughter, was simply musical. I found myself laughing along with them. Gordo! Willy B! CY!!! The laughter was echoing off the walls. How lucky are these guys to finally make new friends?!

Thanks Chad for including your selection of photos. I can almost hear Jamie munching the rose hip right off the branch in the first photo and I love it when she gets that twinkle in her eye like she has the second image. And then there is Marvelous Mave! “Floofy” Mave as Linda says. Marvelous, floofy Mave biting her lip, it’s too much. And deep thinker Lucky (Tom your comment cracked me up.) Where would they all be without everyone who has made this possible. Thank you, thank you one and all. Big thanks and hugs to you Chad and Diana, J.B., Kelsi, Katelyn, Anna, Anthony, Sofia, Sam, Dr. Erin and Jen Feuerstein. You are incredible.

Does it make any difference in the chimp’s behavior when you put males and females together? Do they act differently when it is just females or males?

      That’s a good question, Barbara!
