Chimp ID: Lucky

September 1, 2021 by Kelsi

Since Lucky’s group is still new to all of us I thought it would be fun to do another chimp ID. Who better than Lucky to do it with! Lucky is really special. As we get to know her, she is super fun and really silly. There is something in Lucky’s eyes too, they are warm and inviting. She really is just awesome!

Lucky seems to like these scarves we put out as enrichment.

Lucky has no white marks or freckles on her face, but she does have a distinguished white beard.

Lucky isn’t a small chimp, she has a little belly that moves around when she breathy pants, it’s the best!

Lucky has very kind eyes and loves to make deep eye contact with you.

From certain angles Lucky reminds us of Washoe, sometimes Lucky looks just like her!

But Lucky really looks like her full sibling Cy! Lucky has a large browridge, which is why she looks like her brother.

But looks aside there is no one in the world like Lucky, as I said before she is a really special individual!

Thank you, Kelsi. She has such a soulful presence, including her eyes. I appreciate jiggling bellies and am glad you shared that info about her with us. I’m sure it adds to her presence. I wonder if she shares Cy’s interest in reading materials since they’re siblings. Great photos! I’m enjoying getting to know each of the new folks but must admit I haven’t mastered telling them all apart yet.

Thanks for the chimp ID lesson, Kelsi!
it’s always helpful to know how you guys learn to distinguish one from the other!

Lucky is interesting to look at. In the top/first photo, second and fifth photo her face looks lean and thin like Annie (could be the angle of the camera), then in the sixth and last imge she looks big and fluffy, almost like two different chimpanzees. But in every photos it’s her eyes that I’m drawn to! You are so right Kelsi, even in photos, her eyes are warm and inviting. Must take your breath away to have Lucky staring at you in person. Lucky you! Thanks for introducing her to us.

I definitely see the resemblance to Washoe. and I enjoyed reading about her. Thank you. And now I’m over the moon about Lucky! I thought she was reserved and aloof, so I was happy to hear that she can be a silly gal, and how warm and playful her personality is. Thank you for bringing her to life for us.
