Today Honey B turned 31! Since Honey B has so many different interests, we were excited to throw her first birthday party since arriving at Chimpanzee Sanctuary NW. The popcorn forage was a big hit, as was the special decaf coffee we served her at lunch, but we were most curious to see if she’d enjoy her new gifts. Spoiler alert, she did!
Harley Robb says
Honey B is so genius, she figured out how to use it so quickly!
Jackie says
Happy Birthday to the beautiful Honey B!
Bonnie Stevens says
Happy birthday Honey B. You are looking good girl. Be safe with new birthday gift
Janet says
Happy Birthday Honey B. I thought the samething the first time I saw Honey B on the scooter that she needed a skateboard. Seems like she’s fascinated with it. Maybe soon she’ll figure out she could use the chute as per private skateboard ramp, so instead of throwing things down it she’ll be flying down herself. Such a smart chimp, but then they all are.
Linda C says
that’s what I posted on YouTube…imagine her catching air at the top of the chute stairs! 😀
Sherry says
Happy Birthday Honey B.! Hope you had a great day!
Marya says
I always adore the daily blog post and get such joy from watching the gang, but today’s was especially “special” to me. In the midst of various challenges, I watched this post of Honey B with her new skateboard and was happily watching her with her popcorn, examining the board, practicing rolling it — and then, WHAM! When she put her foot on it & scooted along I laughed out loud! What a gift in my life it has been to find the sanctuary and the life that exists there.
CeeCee says
Happy Birthday Honey B,
Looks like all your wishes came true!
Barbara H. says
Happy Happy Birthday Honey B. Enjoy your new toys and
your wonderful life at the Sanctuary.
Judith Friedman says

John Joseph O'Brien says

Jo Arroyo says
Happy Birthday Honey B! The girl likes her popcorn and digs her skateboard!
Debi says
Now that I look back at those final, hectic weeks leading to the exciting arrival of the “Californians,” I wonder how I could ever have even wondered for a moment whether I’d be able to love them just as much as I love Jamie, Missy, Foxie, Burrito, Annie, Negra & Jody…
All I had to do was watch them being unloaded from the truck, & so carefully brought inside to begin their exploring, that I immediately realized with a BIG lump at the back of my throat, that while I didn’t even know them as individuals yet, I already felt such a deep emotional connection to each of them, (with my whole heart), that I’d already felt such a powerful love & affection for these precious chimps before I even “knew” them…
Happy 31 st Birthday, Honey B…Each day, you, Mave & dear ole Willy B continue to amaze & awe me with your unique personalities…
Debi says
BTW, I realize (& with a sense of a degree of embarrassment), that I’m not a good writer whatsoever…Not like the other regular commenters who write their thoughts with such wit, & so beautifully, & as hard as I try not to, I still use too many adjectives…but I hope the real meaning of what I’m trying to convey (in my Sr. citizen way… 🙂 comes through clearly enough…Love & hugs to all…Debi
Linda C says
righr back atcha, Debi!
Elaine Reininger says
You express what is in your heart and on your mind just beautifully, Debi. So no apologies.
Kathleen says
Hi Debi, I enjoy your posts. You write right straight from your heart. I’m with you, seems like you can never use too many adjectives when trying to express your love for the chimps. How DO you describe that fluttery sensation in your chest? Sigh…..are there even words for it?!
Marcia says
The three are such a joyous addition to the crew. I love each of their amazing personalities more and more with each post, of which, by the way, is the only blog I follow religiously every day. What a wonderful organization you are and it’s such a joy to tune in for the days update.
I would give just about anything to see Honey B in her own little skate park, under the blue skies.
Kathleen says
Happy Birthday Skater Girl!! Why does your knack for skateboarding surprise me? You are, after all, from California. Now head out to the Half Pipe (aka the chute) and rip. (I think Honey B needs some Vans to go with her repurposed headband.) Oh Honey B, it’s simply over-the-moon-wonderful that you and Mave and Willy B ended up at Chimpanzee Sanctuary NW. Hope you totally enjoyed your first birthday party. May every day this year be as wonderful as today! xoxoxo
Tobin says
Wonderfully put! I so hope that the Skater Girl Birthday Girl will zoom to the outside.
Linda C says
hope you’re holding up, Tobin
Tobin says
And the same with you, Linda. Be well.
Sherry P says
Happy Birthday, Honey B! such a smart young lady! 😀
Arlene and Michael says
Happy Birthday dear Honey B. Hope this is your best birthday yet. Enjoy your celebration!
Linda C says
I’m glad it was a good birthday, Sassafras!
Whoever sent that board, it was a brilliant idea!
Now….about the coffee….how do the chimps decide they want coffee!? I mean, I would have guessed Neggie, but no one else seems to lack energy….is this just because she’s a copycat, and wants what you guys are drinking?
Anna says
We were tipped off that she likes coffee from her former caregivers. Decaf seems like the best choice since Honey B has enough energy on her own 🙂
Judy says
Honey B will be shredding in no time… We ought to send Tony Hawk some footage when she starts doing rail slides and backside airs… Debi… I thoroughly enjoy your posts.. You express the essence of what matters and adjectives are a super 🙂 important part of that. My senior citizen way likes how you say it..
Tobin says
“She’s got a ticket to ri-ide, she’s got a ticket to ri-i-ide”. I wish Honey B Chimpanzee a happy new year of life and X-treme Skateboarding.
Deanna says
What a great birthday! It was hard to see them go but I truly could not be happier at how absolutely amazing their lives are now. Happy birthday Honey B! You are so clever and never cease to amaze us all!! It is abundantly clear how much you and all your mates who call this place home are loved. Warms my heart!!!
Francoise says
Coffee. Coffee? Really? I’d never have thought. I too want to know how that started. Now, I think you need to find a Seattle coffee roaster to come up with a line of CSNW roasts and blends to sell. Names? Well, obvious. Now that would be interesting and perhaps a little of the green stuff to go with it. I love my coffee! Does Honey B take it black or white? .
Betsy says
That’s a brilliant idea. I’d sign up for a monthly supply!
Linda C says
love it, lol!
“Jamie’s extra dark espresso roast”
“Neggie’s Toffee Nut” (though I feel she’s more of a tea kind of girl, SleepyTime Tea), “Jo’s Fair Trade Harvest”,
“Burrito’s on decaf”, etc.
Elaine Reininger says
I just can’t believe how smart she was to know exactly what to do with that skateboard. I bet the person who sent it was over the moon with glee watching what happened with that clever gift.
Linda C says
I would be! We all love to see our gifts in action!
