Racing at Sunset

May 15, 2020 by J.B.

The other night, Jamie was walking around Young’s Hill with Diana (and Meredith) after all of the other chimps had gone to bed. As I went to put the Gator back into the barn, she signaled that she wanted to race. So we did. And we were lucky enough to do it with one of the most beautiful sunsets as our backdrop. Strange job, indeed.

As a bonus, here are some photos our our man Willy B from this morning. He dined in on the first level of the platform with the lettuce he’d picked up along the way, but he took the orange on the second level to go. Mave reached out to grab some lettuce from the boardwalk but she has yet to come all the way out. And Honey B is content for now to watch from above in the chute. All in good time.

    You guys are awesome πŸ™‚
At a certain point, they say you turn into who your hanging out with…. When Diana slapped her foot for take-off, it could have been Jamie, when she clapped her hands for the same in an earlier video!
This is also trouble for me, with the company I’m keeping, I’ll be chasing squirrels soon.

Such fun!! I think of the joy Jamie must feel, being free to run, sharing the fun with her friends. My heart is bursting.

So I guess the lesson here is that exercise is a natural part of life. ….so off the sofa everyone!.

Well 1st, I’m glad that Anthony pushed forward the idea to share this–that sunset was too beautiful to just live on Instagram!
Yes, ztrange, Diana, could you 2 ever have imagined when you were younger that this would be what you would be doing on a Saturday night!?
And certainly, when you go to this much trouble, you surpass “caretaker”and definitely become “friend”.

And I look forward to the day when you have to put THREE oranges on the top of that platform!

If I were under that sunset I’d want to run like the wind too. Magnificent! To the comment about having a weird/strange job, back in the early days Steve Martin did a skit where he would sing “The most amazing thing of all is…I get paid for doing this”. You bet, how lucky is that!

I am pleased to see Willy B enjoying being outside, at least enough to keep heading back out. My heart pounds when I see those photos of his o-u-t-s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d arm reaching for his orange. Once back to level 2 he looks so very pleased with his prize. I guess the top is pretty scary. Now I’m wondering what Mave will do. As you say, time will tell.

Thanks so much for for doing what you do. Not weird. Majorly cool in my opinion. You are amazing.

Thank you for sharing your amazing evening with us in that video – the sky is so beautiful and how blessed you all are to have each other.
Yay another day of venturing outside for Willy B! He’s so brave.

This video and blog-post made my heart happy .. If I had been there, I too would want a good run under that painted sky, and the companionship of special friends to enjoy it with. Thank you! πŸ˜€

Hooray for Mave! I’d love to see a picture of her doing that, and wait for a shot of them both being brave! ????
