Missy’s Rippin’ Around

August 14, 2019 by Kelsi

Well, as promised I have a fun video of Missy being goofy! Recently Missy has been letting loose with her caregivers. She has been seeking people out, asking to be groomed, and wanting to play! It’s fun when you see the chimps feel relaxed and comfortable, I mean that is the point of sanctuary. There are many moments throughout the days of work where I have these realizations. This isn’t their natural habitat, they should be in the wild. But if they have to be in confinement, I am happy they are here, getting the best care possible.

In the video you all will see little Miss ripping up a boot with very minimal effort. Chimps are so strong, it is a good reminder that although there are 1,000 other reasons chimps do not belong as pets, one good one is they can do a lot of damage with out trying and in a matter of seconds. Though the chimps can be sweet there is a side that can be unpredictable and in those moments a lot of destruction or harm can happen. **Disclaimer**  Jamie was not not mad about that specific boot being torn up!

Missy:

Here are a few photos I snapped from this morning.

Annie still rockin’ 2 sweatbands:

And Jamie about to walk out of the raceway for her morning patrol:

Cute video. I could see how strong Missy is with that boot. Wow!! So nice to see the chimps so happy and doing things they like to do.

What beautiful photographs of Jamie, Annie and Missy, who graciously provided an PSA on why primates do not make especially good housepets (or shoe store employees). I kept that concept in mind early this morning when, before the alarm clock interrupted me, I had a dream that I had walked into my apartment and discovered Ms. Foxie Chimpanzee sitting on my window sill. As much as I adore Foxie and did my best to display courtesy to her surprising presence (in Minneapolis, no less, let alone my living quarters…I presume that she had helped herself to the contents of my refridgerator), I was rather vexed on how to get her home to Cle Elum. Fortunately, my alarm clock dutifully and annoyingly buzzed forth at 5:45 a.m., and I trust that Foxie spent an enjoyable summer’s day on Young’s Hill with Troll and Dora and other more suitable companions. The End.

Well no wonder Missy ripped apart that boot, there was a hole in it. The easiest way to get to the hole was to start at the top and tear your way down to the hole to see what was underneath. I totally get it. But yikes, she did rip through that leather as if it were a Kleenex! What fun it must be to be able to tickle-poke that sweet muscular hairy thigh of hers. Thanks for the video and the great photos, appreciated as always!
