Meet Mave!

August 27, 2019 by Kelsi

We are just basking in Mave right now! Mave is the most pleasant surprise! We didn’t know much about her going into this process. We had learned a bit about Willy B and of course we knew a lot of about Honey B, because you know, being Missy’s daughter. But when J.B. and Diana went to visit at Wildlife Waystation Honey B and Willy B were way more interactive, so we weren’t sure what to expect with Mave. So far, in our “honeymoon” phase, she is silly, easy going, and a good friend. She can play rough with Willy B, lay back and relax, or be caught grooming with either one of her friends. Mave seems to really enjoy slinkys! She also does this silly play bounce where she almost looks like she is doing a pushup and than explodes up in the air and claps her hands and feet together, and then she likes to play chase with her caregiver outside the windows! You could say we are smitten.

The other night, a friend said to me: “I’m thinking that Mave is going to turn out to be a real character.” I am pleased to learn that Burrito will soon have a neighbor who appreciates playing with slinkies as much as he does.

It’s so wonderful to see how beautiful she’s adjusting in her new journey. It’s so very heartwarming.

I am totally smitten with her face. Mave looks so sweet and kind, and she knocked on the Howdy Door. That had me hook, line, and sinker! Now you have to capture her play bounce on video for all of us to see. Thanks for filling us in on this new member of the troupe!

I really burst out laughing upon seeing sweet & gentle Mave knocking so politely on the Howdy door…Maybe she was just tapping out a sort of Chimpanzee “Morse Code” message with a friendly greeting to the original Cle Elum Seven & then mentioning how much she thoroughly enjoyed Burrito trying his darnedest to get a sneak peak at the new neighbors…I think she might turn out to become everyone’s favorite “Auntie”..smiles

The first thing I thought of was what a sweet face she has. I think she will be so much fun
to watch and interact with. Fun to watch her grow and get to know.

Have you posted the ages of the new chimps? Did I miss it somewhere? Thanks.

Hi Meg! We are working on getting their birth dates! Mave & Honey B are 30 and Willy B is 29! Here is a link to the chimp bios of what we know so far: https://chimpsnw.org/chimpanzees/

As you introduce our new friends, please include a brief paragraph about their age and background. It seems we knew so much about the seven, but not so much about these guys. Also, I will repeat my request for an accessible profile for each chimpanzee person, including age and background, favorite activities and foods, quirks, and when their birthday is celebrated. You can even throw on links to some wish list items for their favorites. The blog posts build our relationships with them and the sanctuary, and this addition could make it even more accessible to new people who might be wanting to learn more and could become strong supporters. Thanks!

There was once a profile for each with a pic from their first day and a current pic to see how they have changed, but I can’t find that now.

Hi Pat! We are getting to know these three and spend as much time with them as we can! There is some more info about them on our website: https://chimpsnw.org/chimpanzees/
But again we are still learning new things about them everyday, their personalities, favorite games, and food! We are working on trying to find out their birth dates. Hang in there, we will have more soon!

I have only been subscribed for a couple of months to the Sanctuary but I watch the lovely chimps everyday enjoying their precious freedom, and it makes me so happy! I saw Maeve today up close and, I have to say, I found something special in her face I think I’m going to love watching her open up and enjoy herself! I can’t wait! ????
