Business (almost) as usual

August 22, 2019 by Anna

The original Cle Elum 7 have had a relatively typical summer day in Central Washington. They’ve spent the day playing, napping and taking periodic “recess” breaks on Young’s Hill.
Foxie:

Jody and a fresh picked snack:

But despite the seemingly average day at the sanctuary, there has still been something that keeps drawing them back into the playroom for a quick and necessary investigation.

Jody doing her best to get a peek beyond the howdy door:

Willy B, Mave and Honey B are just out of sight (for now), but as soon as they get access to their new outdoor chute, the 2 groups will get a better view of each other from a little distance. In the meantime, the new 3 can get glimpses of the 7 from their view upstairs if the other chimps are on Young’s Hill. So far, it’s been a relatively quiet and peaceful transition for the newest sanctuary residents. Staff members are taking turns getting to know everyone and vice versa. We are all just so thrilled to welcome them to their new home and we can’t wait for what’s to come.

Here’s Mave today as she watched the driveway below the sanctuary:

And Honey B:

    Hi, Anna!
Oh, we’ve all been so wrapped up in Honey B and Missy that we hadn’t thought that maybe Jody would make a new friend!
Willy certainly has a look of longing on his face, what a good pic. Just 3.5 more weeks, and hopefully, he’ll be smiling…
What are the ages of the “new” chimps?

I’m under the impression that’s Mave in the photos? I may be wrong lol. Beautiful chimp nonetheless!

I trust that you will share these pictures of Foxie and Jody with Mave, Willy, and Honey B. From the looks of it, Jody seems like she would like to meet her new neighbors.

The adorable photo of our so loved, “Farmer Jo,” trying her darndest to sneak a sly little peek at her new neighbors has me literally in a fit of the giggles…I just find it so very, very funny…She’s such a clever girl, eh??? : )

Wonderful photos! I adore the one of Jody looking for any possible way to open that door and discover the mysteries of the other side. The curiosity of the seven must be intense.

It seems as if Mave, Honey B and Willy B would be cool knowing other chimpanzees are on the premises since they lived in a place that housed chimps (40 I believe?). BUT….. for the Cle Elum Seven, let’s just say they have been oh so very spoiled over the past decade (as they should be) having Young’s Hill and all the Caregivers and volunteers all to themselves. The mere thought that there are chimps on the other side of that doorway must be so intriguing! If only they could just sneak a wee peek and see……

Oh Jody, right when I thought I couldn’t love you more I see this photo. How can you be the den mother if you can’t see and/or have a proper introduction to whoever is making all that commotion on the other side of the door.

Thanks for todays photos. Mave is magnificent looking (that is a beautiful photo, the lighting is perfect). And I see Missy in Honey B’s eyes, looks like a Missy stare.

    The anticipation is killing me!

They are just magnificent aren’t they? Will be fascinating to watch as things develop. Thanks so much for the beautiful pix and descriptions of all that’s going on. You are all wonderful and loved!! Hugs to all…
