Big Welcome to Honey B, Willy B, and Mave!

August 18, 2019 by Diana

Honey B, Willy B, and Mave arrived at the sanctuary this morning and are getting to know their brand new facility right now as you read this post!

These three chimpanzees came from Wildlife Waystation in California which recently announced that it is closing and, with the help of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, is transferring the animals living there to other organizations.

Honey B is the adult daughter of Missy, who has lived at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest since 2008. Missy gave birth to Honey B at a laboratory and they were separated when Honey B was less than 24 hours old.

The three are settling in quite well after their journey and are very curious about the new friendly faces and interesting views at their new home.

Honey B:

Willy B:

Mave:

They will be in quarantine for 30 days before they have any contact with the seven, but the two groups will be able to see each other at a bit of a distance once the above ground tunnel is complete.

We’ve had quite a few additional expenses lately with the construction of the archway tunnel that will connect the new space to the outdoor habitat and all the costs we just incurred transporting the chimpanzees to the sanctuary this weekend. So please consider making a “Welcome to your new home” donation in honor of Honey B, Willy B, and Mave!

We will update you all soon with videos and more, but we didn’t want to wait any longer before sharing this good news.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest over the years, enabling the sanctuary to be in a position to help these three chimpanzees (and more in the future)! And thanks to those who have directly cared for and advocated for the chimpanzees at Wildlife Waystation.

Oh my God, I’m so excited! I’m happy and crying all at once!

Can’t wait for the videos. Make sure they’re nice and looooooong, too!

Looks to me like Mave has already determined that she’s home. Love it! I also can’t wait for Mr. Burrito-toes to finally have a buddy. Oh, I hope Jamie stays calm with the changes and doesn’t want to beat anyone into submission. I guess we’ll see.

You’ll have my painting sometime this coming weekend, so hopefully that will help with expenses.

Thanks for sharing this super news! Waiting anxiously for more….

Thanks, Amy! Yes, it’s difficult to sneak in three chimpanzees without the others knowing. There’s been some loud banging on the Howdy door 😉

Whoot! Whoot! Hoot! Hoot! What a day! Time for Honey B, Willy B, and Mave to find themselves and begin a new life. Honey B does look like Missy in this photo, unbelievable. Willy B looks as adorably charming as Mr. B and Mave looks as if she already found her groove. I am so very excited for all of you — humans and non humans!

Congrats to everyone involved in the transfer of this precious cargo. I too am looking forward to future (looooong) videos and photos. I am curious if these three had contact and interacted with each other at Wildlife Waystation. I am assuming they had to have lived together if they are housed together now or are they now in three separate rooms? Sorry if you already explained this, I’m so excited I can’t remember their situation prior to arriving!

    Happy Days to everyone. XOXO

    • Linda Crawford says

One of the photos they posted showed Willy B in a cage with one of the females, so I think so? Looked like it might have been an outside portion of their enclosure.

  26. Margaret says

    August 18, 2019 at 7:10 pm

At their last home they seemed happy with each other from the video I saw but did they ever go outside?

  27. Linda says

    August 18, 2019 at 7:12 pm

Squeee! Or rather, HOOoot, HOOOooot, HOOOoot! (In case that doesn’t come through, that’s my “Jamie impersonation” :))
Man, they look so relaxed already!
I, too, see a resemblance between Honey B and Missy, although she’s not quite as compact as her mum!
And Mr Willy B is certainly a handsome gent!
Keeping my fingers crossed for happy blending in the days ahead!
Oh, I think there’ll be tons of new photos and videos in store for us all! Can’t wait!

What wonderful news–I don’t know why but my eyes got all filled with tears of joy as I looked at the pictures. These 3 sure are lucky to have been chosen for CSN–they have no idea what chimp paradise is. Like everyone else, I look forward to more pictures and videos. It was a computer video of a group of chimps emerging from a steel door and seeing open space, the sky above and feeling feet on grass instead of a steel cage that originally got me to your site so many years ago. The look of wonder on their faces as they took it all in really touched my heart and I’ve been a follower ever since. Can’t wait to see the reaction of your seven when they meet face to face. Thank you everyone for making such a wonderful thing happen for 3 more chimps.
