Happy 4th of July!

July 4, 2019 by Kelsi

Happy 4th of July everyone! I am sure we all think of fresh fruit, chips, hot dogs/hamburgers (veggie of course), and a crisp drink when we think about gathering with friends and family to celebrate our Independence Day. I mean what could be more 4th of July than a good old fashion BBQ?! I though I would share what was on the menu for our party.

We started our day with a nice refreshing fruit salad bowl made by our lovely volunteers:

Next we moved to the Hill forage for lunch. We cooked up some veggie dogs, Negra and Burrito almost screamed when they saw the buns, cut up some watermelon, we baked fries, sprinkled a few cherry tomatoes, shucked corn, and cut up some spears of cucumber (that we pretended were pickles)! Don’t worry we did not forget about refreshments, the chimps drank some Martinelli’s as well.

I would scream for this meal too:

I know there is a video, but I thought I would share just a few photos too!

Jamie walking on the firehose:

Annie found one of the many boats:

And Negra.

She was moving around everywhere today, it was fun to see where she would pop up:

I do not want to be political on the 4th of July but I can’t help but think of Native Americans who lost everything while we gained our independence. So today is a day I struggle with personally. Seeing your video brought me joy and gave new meaning to the term Independence. I had tears in my eyes as I watched everyone enjoying the beauty of Young’s Hill and todays fabulous forage of fantastic goodies. Thank you CSNW for giving my beloved friends freedom.

I am glad this video could bring you joy. That is the exact thought I had when I wrote Independence. The video reminded me of the chimps freedom.

I always enjoy seeing the colorful photos of the food dishes. You people really put a lot of time into the preparation of parties, holidays, birthdays etc. All that cutting, slicing, chopping, like you don’t have enough to do with the entertaining, photographing, medical examinations, clean-up etc. I saw Jody scratching her shoulder briefly in the video and it made me wonder as they struggled through the tall grass if they ever come back with fleas and ticks????

Hi Elaine! That is a great question. We haven’t seen any problem with fleas or ticks. They groom a lot with one another which helps. Jody’s scratch is from a fight most likely. Usually minor scratches, but then the chimps groom each other they reopen it or groom themselves and reopen it.

It was so enjoyable to watch and hear the Chimps so excited with their July 4 celebration. Thank you for all that you do for them. So much time and thought and effort goes into planning and executing these wonderful parties. It is evident the Chimps are very grateful:)
