Chimps meet cows

June 28, 2019 by J.B.

We finally got the summer pasture opened up yesterday and it was the first chance for a real face-to-face meeting between the chimps and the cows. Check out the video above and enjoy a few bonus photos of our beautiful cows enjoying their new digs:

That’s so exciting ! Of course Jamie was the first to meet them.
Those cows are just the cutest, it’s funny, I’ve spent a lot of time wondering how the Chimps would feel about the cows, but not the other way around, until I saw those cute cow faces looking at the chimps like “what the …….”

This is a beautiful video. It’s amazing to be able to see the reaction of both the cows and the Chimps as they see each other up close and personal.
Thank you so much for sharing. It looks so heavenly there.
This reminded me of another friend of the Chimps – Ellie the Elk. Any word on her??? I do hope she is ok.

I haven’t gotten any updates on Ellie recently. Last I heard she was with the group but not yet socializing with them.

This is so cool. My head is spinning with questions after seeing this, but I too was more curious how the chimps would react to seeing the cows close to Young’s Hill and I have no idea why I never thought about how the cows would react to seeing the chimps. So interesting thinking about these two species getting a good look at each other in the same habitat! What were they all thinking? (I am assuming the chimps could see the cows from a vantage point inside the chimp house over the winter so they have been aware of the cows presence?) Missy’s bark was also very cool to see and hear, go Missy. But most of all I loved Jamie’s clap to get her patrol and your muck boots moving onward. And I was wishing Ellie was in the middle of it all just to add an elk into this curious mix. Can’t wait to see more as time goes on.

One of my favorite blogs of all time. Seeing the cows with the chimps reminded me of Ellie and I am hoping she is adjusting to her new life.

When Foxie went to Burrito to get reassurance from him, I trust that he was able to inform her that, though the cattle are large, they aren’t predators. After all, they don’t have opposible thumbs and big toes on their hooves.
