Burrito loves food, but there are times when love doesn’t adequately describe their relationship.
With hands full and mouth stuffed, he retreats,
to a quiet, still place.
In these moments, he looks heavenward in a state of transcendence,
and with each bite slips further the surly bonds of earth and time.
Suffering and desire cease to exist. The boundaries of self begin to dissolve.
In these moments, there is only one thing. There is only food.
Unfortunately, every meal has to come to an end.

I’ve been checking in on a daily basis to your blog for about 2 years now and have been tempted to comment many times. I could wait no longer. This post made me laugh out loud. I love your entries JB and this one is a cut above. I adore Burrito and could truly never get enough of watching him eat.

A little John Magee, eh? 😉 Burrito’s daily “Proustian” moments……I love it!
Glad he’s back to himself, though I’m sure the post-meal energy surge and subsequent display did NOT please the ladies…….
You know, I’ve always thought Burrito exempifies what we call “mindful eating”….even Jo, with her dinosaur grunts of pleasure, doesn’t really consider her food the way Burrito does; she enjoys her meal, but her eyes are ever watchful, checking to see where everyone else is, etc.
Burrito always contemplates his food, totally loses himself to that experience, as you say, with an occasional squeak thrown over his shoulder to the others.
Is Curious George still alive and well?
Sister Louise Manson says
Burrito looks heavenward in thanksgiving for the bounty that he is provided with both by the creator and by his wonderful caregivers. Such bliss is often hard to capture in “human” life. I am glad to see that Burrito has mastered it. Blessings to you Burrito.

JB thank you. This is a beautiful post. The pictures match your eloquent words so well. The expression on his face while looking upward looks like gratitude to me. It’s wonderful he is doing better and has something that makes him so happy.
