Negra was first outside this morning and she had one goal: eat lots of wild prickly lettuce! This plant grows naturally on Young’s Hill and is a go-to treat in the spring time.

Negra is my favorite because she is the elder – I am 73. I appreciate the other comments here as I am relatively new so missed beginnings.
I want to thank you so much for this long, leisurely stroll with Negra ~ deliciously long to watch here enjoy herself.
She seemed to look back toward “us”, the videographer ~ does she want to check back for a sense of security while she’s out there? Just a beautiful experience here. <3

So beautiful that Negra is heading out on her own and revelling in Young’s Hill and harvesting its vegetation when in early years she was nervous to be outside.

I, too, was happy to see that Negra was willing to go on her own. Poor thing, though, I wish she felt better mixing with the others, though it takes some confidence to be alone. Was she moving slowly to be sure to catch everything or does she always move slowly? And is she heavier than the others? I was comparing her to those who scampered around her.

Negra does move slower than the others. She’s the oldest and has always been the roundest.

Thanks for this sweet video Anna. I was thinking along the same lines as Linda and Patrick. I remember many “firsts” for each of the chimps but with Negra, each brave achievement melted my heart. The very first day she adventured all the way to the top of Young’s Hill and settled down to nosh on her wild prickly lettuce and green grass is a day I will never forget. I felt so many emotions over that courageous trek. I honestly sobbed tears of joy for Neggie that day, and I asked myself if I could be that brave. The honest answer is I’m not so sure I could. The Cle Elum Seven are extraordinary. And just look at Negra now! Negra looks so comfortable strolling freely in her backyard. Makes you want every chimpanzee still waiting for their second chance to have this opportunity all the more. Yes. Bring Them Home! Bring Them ALL Home, please.

After viewing yesterday’s video and once again being presented with the grievous mistreatment of these seven people during their long, unnecessary imprisonment, it is heartening to watch Negra, Foxie, Annie, and Jamie savor the simple pleasures of being alive on a bright Spring morning.
