Apricity

March 7, 2019 by Anna

While searching around for the perfect way to describe this sparkling morning at the sanctuary, I found this outdated word you sadly can’t find in most dictionaries anymore:

Apricity, noun: The warmth of the sun in winter

Today we celebrate apricity!

Oooo, I always love a new word! Apricity. Perfect. Our friend in top photo looks to me like she’s thinking, “well, I already knew that!” Gorgeous sparkling snow!

Ummmm, why do words go out of style? What a lovely word! And so fitting for the chimps in the chimp house. Seems the Cle Elum Seven love to bask in the wintery sunny warmth, especially when they are inside looking out. ; )

Apricity. What a delightful word with a delightful meaning. As someone who works in words, I am thrilled to learn a new one.

Even in the longest and grayest of winters, reading the CSNW blog and learning what the Cle Eluminairies are up to provides a source of apricity to me. (And here I assumed that “apricity” was a verb meaning, “to wait with hopeful anticipation for Love-a-Chimpanzee Day on April 23rd.”)

Cle Eluminairies! Brilliant, I just love this. Let’s add it to the dictionary.

    Warming winter sun
    Chimpanzees dream of spring grass
    Patiently eat snow
