I had the hardest time decided what to do for the blog today. There were many moments worthy of sharing and even more thoughts floating around my head. I could have written a novel.
Instead, I decided to let the two images below speak for themselves. What do you see?
Lord Byron’s poem “She Walks in Beauty” came to mind with the photo of Negra.
P.S. The “featured” image above of Annie’s profile reminded me of a Victorian cameo. I’m not sure why the chimpanzees brought to mind the 1800s today.

They look like they has a very happy day!

It’s funny you mentioned Byron in relationship to Negra. When I looked at her photo, I had a similar feeling, only in my mind she was the poet. She has such a deep, thoughtful presence here. Burrito’s photo is pure brightness and vibrancy. I’m reminded of portrait photos taken by great photographers like Richard Avedon and Annie Leibovitz.
I’m new to following the blog, but I’m enjoying every moment. Thank you for giving us a peek into the lives of these amazing chimpanzees.

In Burrito’s photo I see a boy who is happy and perhaps, like Winnie the Pooh, someone who might just be contemplating his next smackeral. In Negra’s photo it’s hard to beat your comment Dianna. Yes, “She Walks in Beauty” is very fitting. I also see the comfort and quiet satisfaction of sitting in the warm sunshine. Simple pleasures are the finest. With Annie I see a fluffy head that I would personally love to stroke. ; )

I think Burrito is thinking, I like ME a lot and I’m sure you would too. He just looks so self-possessed and sure of himself. And indeed, Negra definitely Walks in Beauty. Love those relaxed hands folded above that truly lovely, soft, fuzzy belly!

What do I see? Three survivors, rescued by the love, sacrifice and conscientiousness of a few members of
their cousin primate species. I know that Annie, Burrito and Negra are now safe and treated with kindness and
dignity by human primates, and yet, for most of their lives, they were prisoners of human brutality. And
thus Negra’s eyes seer into my soul, and I once again sob. After these photographs are taken, these three will be provided with good nutrition, acreage on which to roam, blankets with which to nest, and the opportunity to play and groom with each other. And still I grieve for their loss of time and life, and the chance to have lived it.

That silhouette is beautiful, Diana……soo Annie! The hair, the brow ridge…only missing the hands!
When I look at Queen Neggie’s photo, I think she probably just finished waking up, and is hanging by the window until breakfast is ready. Am I wrong?

The self-contained beauty of Negra evokes (bizarrely?) for me the great Russian pianist Tatiana Nikolayeva in the last 20 years of her life. Look up “Tatiana Nikolayeva talks about Shostakovich” on You Tube and you will see that both at the piano and in interview…..it really is…Negra: immense dignity, self respect and quiet thoughtfulness.
