Savoring

November 21, 2018 by Anna

Negra is probably the slowest eater in the bunch. When she loves something on the menu, she hoards as much of it as she can, and then sits down to eat it in tiny little satisfying bites. If there is something she really wants to eat, and we are serving other less appealing items first, she impatiently claps and will often refuse to eat the other things in the meal until she gets to her favorite items.

Things like corn and Primate chow are always high on her list:

Good news for the Cle Elum 7, we have already started prepping their Thanksgiving day feast!

There will undoubtedly be lots of food grunts and squeaks echoing off the walls tomorrow. Rumor has it that fluffy dinner rolls are even going to make an appearance (bread is always a big treat). Negra is ready to treasure every morsel.

ooh, I know I probably don’t have to say it, because you’re likely to, but I hope you’ll share those food grunts and squeaks with us! 😀 And even though I know the chimps tell you every day in their own way, we’re grateful that you’re giving up your time on your holiday to care for them. They are blessed to have you.
Thanks for that beautiful pic of Neggie. Lol, she knows what she wants! Amazing that her weight stays the same, but age hits us all hard! 😀 I will be enjoying bread and stuffing as a treat tomorrow, as well. Hope it’s a day of fun and sunshine for all! Happy Thanksgiving!

A very happy Thanksgiving to the chimps and all their human friends!

I agree with Linda: I look forward to hearing the food barks and grunts from the revelers of tomorrow’s
Thanksgiving feast. Knowing how much she loves bread, I hope that the rumor of bread on banquet’s menu can be kept a secret from Negra until she gets to indulge tomorrow. What an adorable photograph of her feasting on
corn-on-the-cob while sitting beneath the summer sun; it reminds me of this past summer that Negra seemed to enjoy so much. For that, and for all which the human employees of the sanctuary do to help the chimpanzees and cattle to have life — and to live it in abundance — I am most grateful on this Thanksgiving holiday.

Tobin’s comment about living a life in abundance is so touching and so correct. I too give thanks for this life lived in abundance, this life of autonomy and choice that all of you have given to Negra and her chimp family, the new cows, and Ellie. I am thankful the earth holds caregivers like all of you. And I cannot wait to see and (hopefully) hear the chimps grunting, squeaking, crunching and munching, banging on caging, and blowing raspberries as they enjoy their feast of thanksgiving for their life in sanctuary.

And let me add, my goodness I love these photos of Negra!
