Typically September is our guaranteed best weather of the year. Well, in our opinions. 🙂 The heat dies down along with the winds, mornings and evenings are cool, but the days sunny and warm. The green of summer is becoming flecked with gold, red and orange. It’s that perfect blend of summer and autumn. The fifth season, betwixt and between. But this year, September has been a little more cold and rainy than usual. Yesterday was so unexpectedly cold! Today we’re back to bluebird skies and a warm sun despite a brisk, damp morning. The chimps have been full of joy and shenanigans all day. Especially Foxie. She’s been full of pirouettes, backflips, cartwheels from the top to the bottom of the caging, playing chase, and just being the most joyful being. Even the normally serious boss lady, Jamie, has been extra silly and happy. Here are some of the things the chimps got up to today:
Annie and Missy were first to the top of a structure after breakfast to take in the view:
Negra enjoyed a moment in the sun:
Foxie decided to play Spider-chimp and take the more adventurous way up the newest structure:
Foxie was sneering all the way back to the greenhouse because she was annoyed by the tall grass in her face and even more so, her nemeses…the grasshoppers! Oh, she hates those grasshoppers!
And some bonus photos from a few days ago of Jody luxuriating in the turtle pool, because obviously you had to see these:

Jody in the Turtle Pool is just so much fun!

I would like to ask why there is no water in the turtle-pool or any others for that matter? do they not like to splash around? thank you.
Linda says
They don´t like to get wet.
Katelyn says
Hi Lisa,
Yes, as mentioned, the chimps don’t care for getting wet and tend to avoid water in general, and it’s also of note that they can’t swim. That said, there is a unique group of wild-living chimps in Fongoli, a savannah in Senegal, who do immerse themselves in pools of water as one of a few ways they’ve adapted to deal with the intense heat there.

Foxie´s chimpanzee parcour was too much of an adventure to take Dora along, Iguess!

Love Jody in the Turtle pool!

One of the best delights of this time of year is the exquisite quality of light. It’s captured in your photos of Missy and Annie and the photo of Negra. Foxie is performing some wild climbing techniques and her dislike of grasshoppers cracks me up! Totally forgot about that. And thanks for sneaking in the photos of Jody, I always love to see her filling up her little pool with her beautiful self!
I try to imagine the day I read about the new chimp residents of CSNW…..wonder where they will find comfort and adventure.

What wonderful pictures of the lovely west coast fall as it arrives. I am from there and must admit I do miss this season. The pictures of the chimps are priceless especially the ones of Jody luxuriating in her “dry” pool. Thanks so much for sharing their lives with us. Prayers will always be with them.

“Splish Splash.” I guess Jody didn’t want to take a “bath”… : )
Seriously, I really look forward to & appreciate your videos, blogs & exquisite photos of these seven
magnificent Chimps…Their individual personalities & habits simply fascinate me beyond words…
I’ll never tire of them & can’t wait to learn all about the new rescued “arrivals,” & watching them gradually settle in & realize they’re finally safe & “free” from any more human harm…Bless you, all…

Thank you for the fun pictures and fabulous updates Katelyn. Looks like the chimps find joy in each day. We can all take a lesson from them.
