It’s easy to tell when Missy intends to engage her best friend Annie in a sudden game or wrestle & chase. It’s not quite a smile on her face. It’s more like, “hold my drink…”
This morning, she chased Annie up and down and all around the play structure.
They play-punched and play-kicked while they each swung by one arm.
At one point, Missy almost caught Annie’s toes – the ultimate objective of every chimp game.
But Annie and her toes escaped to play another day.
When she was finished, Missy performed one of her best-ever leaping uneven bar dismounts…
…and stuck the landing. Can you believe she’s 42 years old?

Hi Tobin – They don’t let things like peels and rinds deter them. Sometimes they’ll even eat them!

As Dianna recently said in a recent post, the chimps at CSNW are aging in reverse. And there is nothing better in the world than a dearly beloved best friend to keep you at your best and feeling forever young at heart. I love the friendship between these two silly girls. Thanks for the pics, brightened my day!

What a wonderful sequence of photos..You can almost see them flying through the air! And yes, it’s hard to believe Missy is 42! Wow!
Do you know if they were ever allowed out in to a play area when they were in the lab? I know they never saw the light of day but I’m wondering (hoping) that they at least were able to exercise at all.
If not, they are sure making up for lost time and enjoying every day now…thanks to all of you!

Hi Chris – We don’t believe that they had access to anything resembling a play area for at least their last couple decades in the lab. Buckshire had no such facilities and neither did LEMSIP. The Coulson Foundation had some runs with exposure to the outdoors that probably offered a little more room to walk and climb but I don’t know which enclosures our chimps were housed in.

Thank-you for your reply J.B. Not the one I wanted to hear of course but again…we are so grateful that all of you at the Sanctuary have given them 10 wonderful years away from that horrible life and here’s to many, many more years of Love, Hope and Sanctuary!
