Journey to the top of the hill

May 8, 2018 by Anna

The time of the year has come where Negra climbs out of her cozy bed…

And heads for the hills!

The hills full of freshly sprouted wild prickly lettuce that is..

Today, many of the chimps joined Negra in her hunt for wild plants. Jody found an assortment of weeds.

And harvested a piece of a newly planted Christmas tree.

But it was Negra who spent the most time this morning, eating handful after handful of her beloved wild lettuce.

Cheers to a blissfully lovely spring!

Wonderful pics. I wish the chimps would come to my yard and eat handful after handful of dandelions. 🙂

Remember when Negra would never conceive of hiking that far — it was scary. Isn’t this yet one more reason to celebrate everything you do?! Negra, after all she was subjected to, after being diagnosed with PTSD from her experience in the lab, has found the courage to embrace the freedom sanctuary offers by choosing to hike to the top of the hill and sit in the sun while foraging for and chomping on newly sprouted prickly wild lettuce! It seems like such an easy-peasy thing to do but that very first trek was outrageously, courageously, incomprehensible to me. One of the many reasons I simply adore and admire beautiful, precious, brave Queen Negra. Oh I love this time of year!

I hope that Negra and her friends will have many, many more days in which to savor the bounty of their land.
