A cabin built for her

May 16, 2018 by Anna

Happiness is watching Negra enjoy some quiet time under the shelter lovingly named “Negra’s Cabin.” The cabin was designed with her comfort especially in mind.

Negra isn’t quite as adventurous a forager as Jody, but she enjoys her fair share of browse. This morning she found a Ponderosa pine tree bough in the cabin and carefully took it back to the greenhouse for further consumption.

You have a gift for explaining the chimps backgrounds and behaviors in a way that always opens my eyes (and heart) to a deeper appreciation for each of them. I often see Jamie as being so strong and intelligent that I almost overlook her frustrations and insecurities. Just like I often view Burrito as being so stinking adorable I forget his turmoil in being a male who has never had the opportunity to know what being a male is all about.

Thank you for reminding me that while each individual chimp appears so brave and resilient, each has their own inner battles to deal with. Where would they be today if you hadn’t rescued them?! You’ve given them a safe place to work out, deal with, express and maybe learn from their issues, what a gift. They are loved and cared for with no punishment inflicted upon them. They are part of a family. They are home. They must be aware of the beauty in this place called sanctuary.

I can’t help but think who they might be today if they had been allowed to live their lives under the guidance of their mothers in Africa?

Negra loves life, at times just being alone. All the chimps are special. As I mentioned the other day gifts and nuts seeds coming for our favorite chimps. Just give me time to recover from my accident

      Love all of you🐵🐵🐵🐵

Thank you so for these insights. We can’t comprehend what each one of these chimps experienced before being rescued. My heart breaks for that but is always lifted when I am able to follow your blogs and know how much they’re loved and cared for. How does one sponsor a day?

I love you Negra. What a dear photo of her inside her cabin!

A few questions if I may…. Did you place that pine bough in her cabin for her or do you ever place special goodies for Negra in her cabin since she doesn’t normally venture out too far? Do the other chimps enjoy a little respite her wind free hideout?

Thanks Anna. The design for the cabin is so cool. J.B. could produce a book on Cool Sanctuary Structures. 😉
