Rainy day puzzles

April 4, 2018 by Anna

A rainy day like today seemed like a good time to introduce the chimps to a new enrichment food puzzle. Before we fully integrate a puzzle into the chimps’ enrichment schedule, we often do a trial run where we try and gauge the chimps’ level of interest in the puzzle, as well as how difficult it is for them to complete. We ultimately want the puzzle to be really time consuming for them (to keep their minds and bodies busy), but not so much that they give up and stop trying. Today we put out a few bath towel knots that had walnuts tied into them. To really make the puzzle challenging, the towels were dipped in water and frozen prior to the chimps receiving them. All throughout the rest of our cleaning this morning, we heard the thumping sounds of the chimps working on their puzzles in the loft of the playroom. I think we can consider this trial run a success, minus the fact that I didn’t manage to get any photos to document the event. Once we get photos, we will add these Frozen Towel Knots to the Enrichment Database on our website. If you haven’t checked out the new look of the database on our beautifully redone website, I highly recommend it!

Because no blog is complete without photos, here is a selection from the vault:

Looking forward to seeing photos of the bath towel (frozen or not) in action! And the new look for your Enrichment Database is super awesome! Loved the photo for “Interacting with Technology” with the gang looking at the iPad. Too precious!

Every since you introduced this new format I have to type in my name and e-mail address if I want to leave a comment. Before I would just write comment and hit “submit’. I do I get that automatic feature back? like to take pictures of with my camera of a favorite photo from the computer screen. The new big pictures

I have to enter name/e-mail address every time I want to write a comment. Old format it was automatic. How do I get that feature back?

Hi Elaine! We are not sure how to help you, but we are looking into it. Sometimes our phones and computers remember these kinds of things for us and automatically enter the information in.

    Hi Elaine,

I am taking wild stab at your issue since I sometimes deal with issues similar to this. Did you check the little box for “NOTIFY ME OF NEW POSTS BY EMAIL.” (found at the bottom of each post.)? If you do check this box, you will receive an email notifying you of the daily blog posts (and you may not want this feature), but being added into the system that way may automatically sign you in thus, allowing the system to “remember” your information. This is just a guess and it will be up to you if choose to check, and then receive, the daily email notification. I do this, and seeing the CSNW Blog title in my email subject lines always make day, so I think it’s worth it just for that. If you have already checked that little box and you are still not being remembered, then I’m all wrong about this but thought it was worth the shout out. 😁 Good luck!
