Lunch

January 30, 2018 by Elizabeth

We continue to be amazed by this spring-like winter we’re having in Cle Elum. Today’s sun has made the greenhouse nice and toasty for the chimpanzees. Volunteer caregiver Jake found the chimps in a grooming huddle up on the platform when he brought lunch out this afternoon, but they were happy to take a break to eat.

Beautiful photographs of a beautiful soul and body. As for the fourth photograph from the top, I remember last summer in the Minneapolis Central Public Library telling a friend of mind about the sanctuary. He’s kind of a tough guy, but as I showed him the CSNW website, this very photograph of Negra appeared on the computer screen. “Awwww,” the words escaped his lips, “she’s adorable!”

So she is. Even so, as I recall from watching her tickle Burrito in a video taken on Christmas morning, she might want to ease up a tad when (as it appeared on the video) she was (playfully?) pounding Burrito’s head onto the floor. After all, she has at least seven times the physical strength of the average human primate, and, besides, he’s missing a front tooth…

Coming upon this website, and learning about the seven wonderful, endearing people who live in this sanctuary, is one of the three best experiences which I have had during 2017. From the bottom of my heart, I thank all of you who work for the chimpanzees. A blessed new year to you and (in birth order) to Negra, Annie, Jody, Missy, Foxie, Jamie, and Burrito: my seven favorite new friends who I’ve met this year.

LOVED this one. and particularly the inter action between Foxie and Jake at 2:02 when he hands her something she did not want, she turned her head away from him, then turned back and rapped the back of her hand on the fencing, then wiggled her hand in the fencing; he knew what she wanted and handed it to her. i love the way all the humans make it clear that the Chimp people are having their wishes heard and fulfilled (to the extent possible).

Wishing the chimps and all of their human friends good health, peace, love, and joy in the New Year. I know tomorrow’s celebration will be fun, and I’m looking forward to seeing the photos.

This is such a joyful video. Thank you so much for sharing this. I agree with Kathleen – I could watch them eat every meal – it’s so good to see them content. What an amazing opportunity Jake has to interact with them like that:)

What a lovely film I really enjoyed seeing the chimps get their food . They were all very well-behaved and knew what they enjoyed
