Snake!!!

August 18, 2017 by J.B.

The chimps follow one simple rule: ALL SNAKES, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, POSE AN EXISTENTIAL THREAT AND MUST BE REMOVED BY ANY AND ALL MEANS AVAILABLE. Sometimes this means enlisting the help of their caregivers.

(In case you are wondering, the sanctuary is surrounded by 1,500 feet of rattlesnake barrier, but smaller, less harmful snakes live within the chimps’ two-acre enclosure and occasionally get into the indoor enclosures).

In this video, you can see and hear Annie alarm calling, while she and Burrito stay safely out of harm’s way. Jody, Foxie, and Jamie mustered the courage to force the snake out from its hiding spot and hand it over to the proper authorities, who in this case was Co-Director Diana.

They are braver than I am around a snake.

I love those girls. They had a mission and they accomplished it together. Love that know they can always rely on their caregivers. xo

And peace and tranquility reign in the kingdom once again, whew! And so you know, I follow the same simple rule the chimps follow only I would NEVER, ever be so brave as to pick up a snake like Jamie did and toss it! Jody, Foxie and Jamie are brave snake wranglers in my eyes.

And where, prey tell, was Queen Negra in of this ruckus?

I love how she’s carrying it far from her body, Just like we would, when faced with something icky. This makes me think of Jamie, tearing out the page of the picture book, when she saw a snake on the page. I love that video. At first, I felt so bad for getting them something that caused so much alarm, but then, when you see how Jamie handles it, you just think…You Go Girl!!!

They just amaze me. All the time. What fantastic response. Love how she carries it away from herself to give to you. LOL. Smart is as smart does and these guys all blow me away. So much love being sent your way.

They are so human like. Anyone brave enough to pick up a snake would hold it way far away from our body. And to know YOU are the one to dispose of the nasty thing is also amazing. The thinking process observed in this video is much like the one where a snake picture in a book was ripped out by one of the chimps. Amazing and loveable creatures

They clearly understand English and what to do in case of a snake emergency. So smart, so caring… I love these chimps….

I LOVED how you phrased the “proper authorities” set-up with “Diana” as the punch-line. HA! Comedy gold, right there. 😉

They were just so CUTE, all lined up, sitting there together, wondering what she would do with the big bad snakie. They didn’t look scared, and they didn’t look proud of accomplishing something great. I dunno, hard to describe. Definitely CUTE.

Me? I go by ONE simple rule, and it will work for bugs, snakes, intruders of the furry kind, and even intruders of the in-law kind: “The man, should *have*…to kill. the. BUG.” I said this in one of my programming classes in earshot of the professor (whilst the guys near me were chasing down a wasp to kill it since I’m deadly allergic). He wasn’t expecting it and laughed so hard he had to bend down behind the podium to compose himself before he could teach again. 😀

    This is epic.
