Jamie’s style

July 10, 2017 by Katelyn

You may have read past blog posts in which we’ve shared that we have daily calendars with themes for the chimps’ daily enrichment. The themes are things like “blue” day, “tea party” day, or “clothing” day. We don’t assume the chimps are aware of the themes, but they definitely help the humans think out of the box and keep things fresh. And we love that the chimps then have the choice to engage with (or ignore) their enrichment exactly as their interest and curiosity dictates at any given time.

Yesterday’s theme was “troll scarves.” Jamie in particular loves these and chose to wear one to lunch today. She definitely knows what works for her. She is such a strikingly beautiful chimpanzee woman.

Oh Jamie, you made my heart happy today. You ARE an extraordinary, beautiful individual! I hope you know and feel peace and contentment now. You sure look like you do!

I love the first photo of Jamie. It would make a great picture of Jamie for the calendar.

She is just beautiful. I’m in love. Is there anything that one can do to help besides donate? I live in So. Caifornia so physically being able to volunteer is not possible.

Hi Sandie, thank you so much for your interest in helping the chimps! If you go to our main webpage and look under our banner you will see “You Can Help” and there will be a dropdown box of ways to help ranging from donations, our Amazon Wishlist, to distributing info about the sanctuary – to name a few. And just what you are doing, checking out the blog and getting to know the chimps, their histories and issues chimps in the wild and captivity face is a huge support! The chimps can always use more friends and the more people that hear about them and their lives and share that information with others, the better! Thank you for caring about them. 🙂

I’m not sure if I can think of anything more delightful than Jamie donning a Troll Scarf! I have to ask, who was the creative caregiver who invented this brilliant accessory? Every time I see Jamie wearing one I burst with joy! Joy because she looks so marvelous. Joy because it makes me laugh. Joy because Jamie loves to wear them — oh yes, this gives me the most joy of all.

Katelyn, you nailed it. Jamie is a strikingly beautiful chimpanzee woman. And I love her for being her true self.

Every time that I see a picture of the chimp family happy, content, enjoying life, bathing in the sunshine, climbing, walking, running, eating the yummy yummy food you guys make for them, I smile and am thankful for their new life. But for some reason I also always think about what their previous lives were like and the stark contrast. I hope there comes a day when I no longer think of their past but only the present. Or perhaps it is essential that we are reminded of their past to ensure it is not repeated and that the remaining chimps will be released. I never stop thinking about them.
